I read this morning..source, Fox News, that China is now threatening to cut off much needed drugs that are used to treat the Coronavirus to the US and the West.
All of the components used for these drugs are made in China too, so the US is not able to manufacture them on our own.
@Carmie Oh wow. Now, THAT is scary :-( :-( :-( I really hope that isn't true. My anxiety just went from a 10 to 10 million :-(

I think that blaming a country for this disease is pure diversion from our own continuing inadequate responses. We've been told ad nauseam that there are enought kits, yet there are not nearly enough getting to where they are needed. And that's just one of a myriad problems we need to work on.
This is not the China virus, this not one country's fault, and to continue such tirades is worse than useless. The last thing we need is more finger-pointing at other nations; what we do need is more communication and help all around.
We need calm reassuring words, confident words that are based solely on what steps need to be taken and when that will occur.

Just look at the responses from last week about the panic and the snide remarks about people over reacting. Do you really think the mood then was where you could restrict travel? I hardly think so.
The problem here is that it is a largely unknown and fluid situation--hard to deal with anything like so everything that is being done is under the "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation.
Folks you really want to hear some people go ballistic? Comment on people illegally crossing the border with no way to check on their health or what they might be exposing us al to. Even now. Yes, even now.

@suzyQ3 And it's not China threatening to withhold our prescription meds??? Are we allowed to be upset with them about that?

@suzyQ3 Agreed. I keep thinking that the potential is there for something wonderful to eventually come from this; more open, global communication and the human race working together in unity towards a common goal. Actually caring about each other in a meaningful way. Two possibilities that are on my wish list.
I know, it sounds trite. But I've always believed that out of every major disaster (natural or man-made) you can count on two things....
1. Something positive will result from it, whether it's on individual levels, national levels, or the greater human race
and
2. Someone will be making money off of it.

This is bordering on becoming a political argument which will get this thread shut down.

This has to change.
I fault our government over the last several decades (both parties) (for excessive regulation and not providing an environment conducive to industry), the corporations (greed) and the labor market (unions protecting workers that don't do the job, workers that don't re educate for new/emerging technology and industry, don't value and take care of jobs) for our loss of manufacturing here. The blame spreads across all participants.
But it really is past the time to see how dangerous this has become.
We have to bring back manufacturing of especially the most critical things, like medication, and if we have to pay more for things to have them done AND DONE WELL THOUGH, here, so be it.
I became aware last year, in buying some OTC meds just how we don't make meds here, and I was both shocked and dismayed. This needs to be a really big priority.

"Thanks to unprecedented travel restrictions, Dr. Anthony Fauci says “we are ahead of the curve” on preventing a major influx of coronavirus cases from Europe. Appropriate action was taken to slow the spread and save American lives."
"Clearly, early on, we made a travel ban with regard to China. That was a very smart move right there because what that did, was prevent a major influx from China."
“Today, the new China is Europe because Europe now is the major element, the major geographic component that is now seeding other countries throughout the world,” he stated. “That’s the reason we made the very difficult, but appropriate, decision to have a travel ban on the European countries.”

Yes it was definitely both parties who let this happen. It has started to change - but clearly not fast enough.
