They just announced that there are 2 people in our city of Manhattan Beach, CA last night on the news...  They had been traveling....  Just need to be aware and take precautions..  Not much else they can do...  When they start closing Disneyland and all of the other parks, it is time to stay close to home.   I know they are talking about doing school on line...   And of course - no TP any where near me...  It is amazing how this item has gone so crazy? along with anti-bacterial products....  Lots of hand washing and just be aware!

@sunniegirl  Hang in there. You are absolutley right. Just take precautions and do your part. Stay safe friend. I actually did hear they closed down Disneyworld. Not sure about Disneyland though.

With New York City's Mayor declaring a State of Emergency, these are some of the powers he now has to contain the outbreak.  None on this list has been implemented yet.  Some seem reasonable and logical (to me.)  I mention this because there are many, many ways we (collectively) can control the spread.  And most are temporary inconveniences which are ultimately for the long term good.

  • Enacting a city-wide curfew
  • Controlling which vehicles can enter and leave parts of city
  • Closing down public transportation
  • Ordering hospitals to postpone elective surgeries
  • Putting rations on certain supplies
  • Suspending sales of alcohol, firearms and other items
  • Prohibiting or restricting number of people on streets and public places
  • Regulating or closing public spaces
  • Enacting emergency shelters
  • Limiting maximum building occupancies

@Johnnyeager  I don't see anything wrong with any of those things. If it helps limit the spread of this, then I'm all for it.

Of course it's going to hurt the economy, but at this point we are way beyond hurting the economy, we have to think of public safety/health right now....that being said though they are going to have to find some balance, b/c there are things that we all HAVE to have. (Food, meds, etc...)  If people cannot get to work, then those things don't get made.

It will be interesting to see how all of this pans out. We just have to have faith that our governments will do what needs to be done in this time of need. Stay safe friend.

I understand how you feel .... I am in NY & am extremely worried .... up until yesterday I hadn’t gone out for 2 weeks ... I figured I was safer in the house.... now they are saying that it’s going to get worse before it gets better!!!!! .....the world has turned into a horrible place & we are all being punished .... I pray that God watches over the good people ..... take care of yourself & your daughter 🙏🙏

@January121   ... please try to calm down.  My brother who is a physician; his sister-in-law who is an infectious disease specialist, and all his infectious disease specialist colleagues (who by the way are the experts in these matters) are saying that we should worry more about getting the flu.  The media, IMHO, is responsible for creating this panic.  Also, wearing masks is totally useless in the prevention of getting sick.

Re: Covid-19 In my county now

we've been living with it for a while here in L A and i think the benefit of it is that people are quite serious about taking precautions with this reality staring one and all in the face..  that's a positive.  what we do now in terms of good hygiene, social distancing, will pay off.

So, I knew it was only a matter of time, but we just got our first confirmed case of Covid-19 this afternoon. The person had been overseas. :-( :-( WHY, WHY wasn't travel restricted WEEKS ago?

I just don't understand this. IF they really wanted to get a hold on this, why didn't they take out ALL the stops necessary? Just things I think about, while I try to remain positive about this subject, but now that it's actually in my county I just don't know anymore. Sorry, not trying to be a downer at all. Just being realistic.

They closed my daughters school tomorrow. Next week was spring break anyways, so I guess we will see if it will be closed beyond that later on. I am really trying to remain positive/upbeat for my daughters (she is 17) sake, but also I've explained to her that there is a big chance she might be confined to the house for a while, b/c I don't want her going places that she doesn't HAVE to go. She understands.

Please everyone stay safe. Btw I am in Knoxville TN, Knox county to be exact.

The answer as to why travel wasn't restricted weeks ago has a lot of components to the answer.

First is our demand for liberty. Americans don't want to be told what to do or where they can and can't go. It's in our nature.

Second, the restrictions put in place originally with China were a political risk with blow back, so to limit travel from Europe would have had those opposed screaming.

And I think in something like this, it will only go over when things get far enough along the bad scale that the people 'get it'. If they had closed off the travel much earlier, most of the nation was in the denial stage, and wouldn't have revolted.

It's like people don't get it, don't see it, don't believe it till it hits close to home or it gets bad for them. That's a shame, and I hope enough people get it now and do what needs done individually.

Re: Covid-19 In my county now

Except for closing Broadway & all the sporting events, we should be doing all the things recommended, all the time.

I'm a germaphobe.   I live like this all the time.   I avoid crowds, I wash my hands often.  My house is full of large cans of Lysol, Clorox wipes, multiple containers of soap, hand sanitizer & wipes, most of which I carry with me at all times.

I have an unpopular opinion, I think this forced "social distancing" is going too far.   Like I posted above, use common sense all the time and choose the risk you are willing to take.

For example, I would never go on a cruise, never have, never will.    But I do go to small sporting events.   If I were to test positive, I would do whatever possible to not expose others.   But I haven't changed my life & my heart goes out to those who have had their world turned upside down.

@Carmie   Yes, and we offered China help which they refused....twice.  Even though this is the case, right now we need to focus on getting healthy  not blame.  Amazing that China would offer such an absurd statement, especially at a time when all nations should be focusing on resources to recover.  Our country is stepping up to the plate and addressing the critical issues at hand....we will make it through this.

I read this morning..source, Fox News, that China is now threatening to cut off much needed drugs that are used to treat the Coronavirus to the US and the West.

All of the components used for these drugs are made in China too, so the US is not able to manufacture them on our own.

Re: Covid-19 In my county now

They have declared Dallas county in Texas a state of emergency now that we have 5 confirmed cases....am sure there must be more than that. I take a presription med that is required for me to live. I am praying I will be able to get it. Insurance only allows 30 days’ worth but am going to request 69 days while it is still in stock...I hope Humana will approve it. The dr says she will.
