We get it, you don't care about anyone else, how kind of you, we are different, we have friends, neighbors and relatives that we know we could spread germs to so we take logical precautions.
As I said once before, we have to look out for the ones who are too SELFISH to care about anyone but themselves. Thank goodness there are ppl in high places who have to cancel trips, etc. for the ppl who won't use their brain.
Sounds like you are ok with taking away your rights.
Ummm, I'm trying to answer this w/o being snarky. In life, you choose your battles. When there is a virus all around us and we could have it w/o knowing, smart ppl put restrictions upon themselves so as not to make life worse for others who may have pre-existing conditions. This is common sense and has nothing to do with "rights."

I just wanted to point out that it's not only the elderly or people with pre-existing conditions who are at risk. An EMS worker I believe in New Jersey contracted the virus after attending a medical conference at a hotel. He was on the news from his hospital bed saying "I don't know how this happened -- I'm YOUNG and healthy." He continued to say he doesn't know how much time he has left, that one lung is critically affected and he's getting worse.
Even an EMS worker of all people can't understand that NO ONE is immune to this virus even if you're young and healthy.
Which is also exactly why we ALL need to heed the advisements about not going to large gatherings and not traveling unnecessarily. Everyone needs to do their part and sacrifice just a bit for the health and welfare of everyone. The less interaction all around the less the chance for spread.

Do you guys really want to see stats about how many will potentially get this thing the way we're going now?

Staying informed and cautious w/o the panic & fear.

I think people in Italy probably acted the way people are acting in this thread. There were people who cooperated and took it seriously, and then there were people who insisted on "going about their lives" with no modifications and didn't care about anybody else. So they had to quarantine the whole dang country.

Others are planning on going to basketball games and parties. I never hear the virus mentioned. Now I take it seriously enough to plan shopping trips early - today there were three cars at the market when I got groceries at 8am. When I got home, I thoroughly washed up.
Good for them for going about their lives. The percentage of infected in this country is very, very low. I am sorry for the ones who have died and are sick. BUT the flu is much worse than this virus at this point in time. We all should take the necessary health precautions to guard against any virus.
It's low because few have been tested.
And No, the reproduction rate for COVID-19 is 2-3 versus
Influenza is only 1.3...making COVID-19 much more worse.

" just dont trust the media or even the CDC..... I listen to informed unbiased, non-political medical professionals"
The CDC is medical and is non-political. Back away from the very political crazy "news" channel.

I live near the nursing home where 19 have died so far so I care. We have no idea how many people have this disease because very few people have been tested. It is amazing to me that so many other countries can do a better job than us.

Of course we should be cautious with our own lives, but I think you want all of us to isolate ourselves in case we have the virus. Lives need to go on. I am a smart person and doing what is right for me.....not responsible for all the people in the world. They will have to take care of themselves just like I am doing myself. SMH
Only a minescule number of Americans have been tested and many my have the virus without sympoms (ala Typhoid Mary, who knew too and refused to isolate herself),
If we have no responsibilty to the people of the world and they feel the same way towards us, who will be left to tend to us and our loved ones if we are infected?

To add to the infection risk points in your post, as someone who has monitored hospital security cameras, I can assure you what you witnessed is TAME in comparison to what I saw happen on cameras!
