Re: Corona... overkill... does anyone

COVID-19 is turning into a VERY Selfish Disease.

"I feel fine. I going about my business!"

But that 'fine' person could be infecting many w/out knowing.

And that's where it's NOT like the flu.

The basic reproduction numbers are different:

Influenza =  1.3

COVID-19 = 2.0-3.0

But just as selfish people walk around w/out the Flu Vaccine,

there will be selfish people walking around, taking unneeded risks

and doing everything opposite of the CDC recommendations,

inflecting others of COVID-19 in their wake.

I have noticed little attention is given to babies and other small children; I know they are usually at high risk for having the flu be very serious for the, along with older people. Does the corona virus pose a big risk to the very young age group or is it only the elderly who need to be so careful?

@lovesrecess, Dr. Ashton just addressed this on GMA this morning. She said for some reason, babies and very smallchildren seem to be immune from this.

I hope they can figure out why this is.  It is puzzling how anyone can have immunity to something they or their mother have ever been exposed to.  But if they figure it out maybe that could be the basis of a vaccine.

Reading over some of these responses, I'm amazed that some ppl have gotten this old w/nobody telling them what to do and how to do it. @Pook is right, as are others. We get it, you don't care about anyone else, how kind of you, we are different, we have friends, neighbors and relatives that we know we could spread germs to so we take logical precautions.

As I said once before, we have to look out for the ones who are too SELFISH to care about anyone but themselves. Thank goodness there are ppl in high places who have to cancel trips, etc. for the ppl who won't use their brain.

Sounds like you are ok with taking away your rights.

Ummm, I'm trying to answer this w/o being snarky. In life, you choose your battles. When there is a virus all around us and we could have it w/o knowing, smart ppl put restrictions upon themselves so as not to make life worse for others who may have pre-existing conditions. This is common sense and has nothing to do with "rights."

@wishmoon, I'm stunned by some of the responses as well. The news regarding this virus as of today is very unsettling. It behooves all to take it seriously. Panic is not an option, but the neither is ignoring the facts as they arise.

My gut feeling is that some are determined to stick with the story fed to them -- all is fine, all is "perfect, just wash your hands.

Of course we should be cautious with our own lives, but I think you want all of us to isolate ourselves in case we have the virus.  Lives need to go on.  I am a smart person and doing what is right for me.....not responsible for all the people in the world.  They will have to take care of themselves just like I am doing myself.  SMH

@Hoovermom, you should isolate yourself if you think you have the virus. And you should be tested.

Are you actually stating that you would knowingly infect others if you tested positive?

I wonder how your philosophy would be impacted if you or your family became ill thanks to someone's selfishness.

@suzyQ3 :  What a stretch to my answer.....think anything you want.  Again, we cannot govern the world.  That's all I am going to say.

Re: Corona... overkill... does anyone

My experience yesterday on the way to Walmart for groceries:

I was at a red light when the car next to me in the left turn lane rolled down the passenger side window.  The young man on the passenger side spat out the window.  The young woman driving was so busy waiting for him to finish doing that, that she missed the green arrow for her to turn.

Drove down 20 blocks to Walmart and got out of my car.  Immediately seen a glob of sputum laying in the parking lot on the way in to the store.  Made me wonder if someone wasn't driving all over town spitting, just because they can't be told what not to do.

Earlier last week, I was in Dollar General and a young woman was in there coughing all over the place.  Probably had not heard that she should stay home if sick, right?

I'm far away, as far as I know, from any known confirmed cases.  But honestly, some people just do not care, and you don't know when you are going to run into them.  Seems like all the warnings have the reverse effect on some.

Re: Corona... overkill... does anyone

While I don't want anyone to panic, I would rather people overreact some out of caution that not take it seriously enough. Both cause problems, but some problems are easier to overcome than others.

I'm also happy that some of the people with really bad information are getting corrected, which I hope will help slow the spread of misinformation.

@Alison Wonderland, I was just about to post something similar in response to a poster. I think that it can be comforting in a situation like this to have others to talk to. Just because there may be some misinformation is no reason to discontinue a discussion. We somehow manage to get excellent information as well as reassuring those who a especially anxious.

And I don't know about anyone else, but I've received good tips on how to proceed through this health crisis.
