CBS is the only network airing tonight's game. So the broadcast deal is with CBS.

I expect their national evening newscast to include relevant facts. A police officer testifying that he sent them the video and got a response back from someone at the NFL who viewed it is very relevant.

OK, I thought it was exclusive.
I just can't imagine why CBS left this important factoid off their extensive story on tonight's newscast. It disgusts me. The NFL is getting major breaks on this story.
Do any of you think Roger Goodell should be fired or step down? In light of this I think he should step down.
I disagree. The NFL is the governing body over the game and has a mission and values statement that includes the conduct of players and integrity of the teams, players and the game.

Our Values

MISSION AND VALUES
To present the National Football League and its teams at a level that attracts the broadest audience and makes NFL football the best sports entertainment in the world.

INTEGRITY

To achieve our mission, we will constantly challenge ourselves to improve and be guided by these values:We safeguard the integrity of the game.

PERFORMANCE AND TEAMWORK

We are ethical in all of our dealings with fans, clubs, business partners, and each other.
We follow through on our words with action. We are honest and direct.
We create an environment that inspires trust and confidence. We expect from everyone in our organization the highest level of performance and commitment to our mission and values.

TRADITION AND INNOVATION

We set the highest standards and challenge ourselves to keep improving.
We are accountable for our results and consistently measure our progress.
We make smart and informed business decisions.
We work together, sharing knowledge, information and other resources to attain the best results.
We focus on organizational objectives, not individual agendas. We recognize that the NFL's traditions are an asset, but we also embrace change.

DIVERSITY

We do not rest on our accomplishments.
We seek new ways of performing in response to fan interests, technology, and the best practices and business models of other organizations.
We balance the need to change with the utmost respect for what has been accomplished.
We are thoughtful and deliberate in our thinking, and always consider the long-term consequences of our decisions. We create an organization that represents, supports and celebrates diversity, while also embracing our shared interests.

We represent and respect a wide range of human differences, personal experiences and cultural backgrounds for the benefit of the organization and our employees as individuals.

Goodell is the CEO of the organization the penalizes the players for things like domestic violence. The police officer sent a copy of the tape to the NFL because he thought it was relevant in them deciding the kind of punishment to levy on Rice. Goodell himself has admitted they "botched" the investigation. He said they asked for the tape, but didn't get it. Meanwhile they had it all along. At most he is lying at the least he has no clue what's going on inside his own organization. To me, that puts into question his ability as leader of the body who has the power to penalize players for bad behavior.

Then you have the Prosecutor letting this Rice guy off the hook with virtually nothing. My biggest beef is with the legal system. They didn't need his "now wife" to testify against him to be able to win this case. What, she passed out or knocked herself out in the elevator? Him dragging her along the floor out of the elevator door was shown in the 1st video.
That is where the Prosecutor might have to work with only circumstantial evidence, but I've seen many murder cases won with only circumstantial used against the defendant. Something fishy about not pressing charges on this guy Rice even without the cooperation of his his Mrs. testifying.
Sure the NFL could improve a lot by just looking over the League Rules in the NHL(National Hockey League for those that don't recognize those 3 letters). One felony be it drugs or domestic violence and the player is out of Professional Hockey, period/fine'/done forever.
Think the main focus outta be on this Rice guy and less of the peripheral possible offenders, which to me are the Team Brass and the NFL.
I agree with you John, that the legal system was less than stellar in this case.
First - they charged BOTH of them with misdemeanor assault. Did she have to come to before she was booked? What were the police thinking?
Then he got off with a slap on the wrist - even though the grand jury indicted him.
I'd like to know if the NFL and/or the team influenced the DA...and where was the judge who signed off on this too????

In the NFL alone there are 20 according to CNN this evening.
Because Goodell admitted that until after the review of this case in the media, he had been too lenient on players convicted of domestic abuse.

As already mentioned, it was discussed on CBS and they cancelled Rihanna's performance at halftime for obvious reasons. However, those that keep saying lets see what the investigation shows to see how this plays out - WHY? The NFL's true colors are already out there for all to see. Hadn't heard there were 20 players presently in similar situations however, over and over it's been repeated on TV this week that there are presently two higher profile cases of two players charged with domestic violence and one of those has already been indicted and found guilty. One beat up his pregnant GF and the other one grabbed his GF by the hair and dragged her from room to room and then threw her on a bed of loaded weapons. I think that last one's name is McDonald. Both are still playing and on the field, and again, one of those has already been found guilty and the NFL is allowing him to play while he is appealing the charge. REALLY???
And having Mueller investigate is one thing but having two coaches being part of the investigation - kinda smacks of the fox guarding the henhouse to me. Someone last night said they can already see how this will play out. There will be no physical evidence that anyone higher up has seen the tape and even if they knew it existed its easier to not view because if you see it, you have to do something about it. Someone last night said what I feel - if the AP story is correct, they will blame some underling (very far down the chain) who will lose their job. Face it, if there had not been a video, life would have gone on as usual. It'll all be swept under the rug. Too much money on the line.
Lastly, don't know why we are all surprised. Most football and basketball players are basically thugs who were poor and happened to be good at sports. They get into college due to their sports and then are given classes on basket weaving 101 or don't have to attend classes at all. Some are exceptions to the rule but all one has to do is listen to them when being interviewed. Isn't Hernandez an example - he was making good money in football yet still apparently ran with and stayed in contact with his gang of thugs and held on suspicion of killing not one, but two people.

His employer, the NFL has stipulations in their contracts for their employees, my problem is the discipline is unevenly applied.

I agree with you Sydney.
Goodell has handled discipline very unfairly and unevenly. His punishments seem to show that the NFL thinks that knocking out a woman is less serious than smoking a joint in the off-season.
He is paid multi-millions every year by the billionaires who own the teams. They are all covering for each other.
His "investigation" doesn't sound very objective if Mueller is being paid mega-bucks by the league he is supposed to be investigating!!!!
