@Pearlee True, it was more like a rigged card game. Still, just like the lottery, the stock market is a gamble and no one should invest more than they can afford to lose. We have money in the market, but not all our money. I wouldn't be happy if we lost it all, I'd mourn the loss, but we wouldn't be penniless. Lots of people lost money in the last down turn and some got out of the market then.
We get less interest from IRA's but that money is secure the market is not secure and everyone knows, or should know, they could lose it all.

We has a high profile case in our area where the man was released early due to terminal cancer. They said he had 6 months or less to live. That was in July of 2016 that he was released. I saw him eating dinner out a couple weeks ago. He looked pretty good for 93 or 94 years old.
As others have said did Madoff have any compassion for his victims? Some of them lost their entire savings. I say he serves his sentence “in sickness & in health.”

As a former Federal employee, I can't help but feel something for the prison employees who have to spend one more day taking care of a sick old man--just like I hate the government resources already used up thanks to him.
No excuse for what Bernie did, but would any of us like to take care of that man and later have to wrap and carry out his dead body? Let someone else handle his final days, I say.
I've met prison wardens and employees in both a state and a federal prison..........they have rotten, dangerous jobs dealing with rotten, dangerous people. Those meetings were some of the biggest eye-openers and emotionally charged moments I've ever experienced
Let's give the prison medical staff a break and send a terminal patient somewhere else--and free up his bed in the infirmary for a younger, less heinous criminal.
Excellent point @novamc1 and I guess my only thought is that he is sent to somewhere where his stay is not cushy or at times does not meet the minimum physical requirements of many folks that are of his age. It's heartbreaking to hear/read about folks that have suffered/been neglected while in assisted living. Truth be told, it wouldn't break my heart to hear it happened to him as through his greed he sentenced scores of folks that couldn't afford a better quality of life in their golden years.

So let me get this straight: The few of you who seem to think that the responsibility is on those who were scammed because they should have known it was too good to be true?
Unbelievable. Who are you who can read minds? And even it they should have been suspicious, they are are still not culpable here. Their mindset is totally irrelevant.

If that prison is as nice as you say .. I say no.. let him have family visits there.. There are plenty of people who die in jail... I know the bible says to forgive and I dont have to forgive him he did nothing to me.. God will be his judge.. as long as he has good medical care thats enough .

Just like another public figure who just announced his advanced illness, may he and Madoff receive the same kindness and compassion that they showed towards others who disagreed with them.
