None of these for me. They scare me and they make me nauseous and then I get sick. I watch everyone else from the ground.

Never was a roller coaster fan, but I LOVED the Tilt-A-Whirl.  Haven't been on one in probably 20 years and I fear if I tried it now, it would end very badly!  But just try to keep me off of the Merry Go Round!

Now that brings up memories!  I did NOT do well on the Tilt-A-Whirl as a kid.  It made me sick first time I rode it.

I loved the Tilt-a-whirl when I was little...it was my favorite ride.

I can't spin anymore and can only ride the teacups at WDW if no one spins them...LOL

Re: At the fair....

When I grew up in our agrarian community, the big annual event was the county fair.  My town was the county seat, so when the fair came to town, nearly everyone attended.  It was such an extravaganza for us that all county schoolchildren had the Friday of Fair Week off so they could attend.

I'd attend with my parents and brother, but also with my best childhood friend, Sally.  She and I loved the Tilt-a-Whirl and the swings that lift you up and out. But there was one ride that tempted yet frightened us every year.  We called it the Bullet in our neck of the woods.

The Bullet

One year (maybe we were 11 or 12), Sally and I decided to go for the Bullet.  In those days and at that age, we could attend the fair on our own, so no parents talked us out of it.

I WAS NEVER SO FRIGHTENED AND PANICKED IN MY LIFE AS I WAS ON THAT RIDE.

Once I got off it, I swore I'd never take the ride again or anything similar.  I have a great distaste of height and being moved around violently (even vigorously) in space.  After the age of 40, those fears got even worse.

We also liked this one that used centrifugal force to keep you in place as you were spun around:

Loved the Round Up which used the centrifugal force. Loved all rides and grew up near Palisade’s Amusement Park. The roller coaster was called the Cyclone & was the wooden type. It was scary when I was young but quite tame compared to some I’ve ridden today. Also loved the boomerang & scrambler pictured up thread.

Since I experienced motion sickness I couldn't go on certain rides.  I remember my mother loving the Scrambler and she would always take my sister and I on that ride and laugh so much.  The one time I went on a Ferris Wheel at a church fair with my girlfriend, we were stuck for about thirty minutes at the top when something went wrong with the ride!!!  My girlfriend was a daredevil and she loved being high up rocking the seat!!!!!  That was it for me going on a Ferris Wheel.  I also loved the french fries and zeppolis at the fairs!!!!

I never liked Roller Coasters or Ferris Wheels.  I don't like heights.  I always loved the Scrambler and the Tilt-a- Whirl.

This post reminded me of going to an amusement park in western PA and absolutely loving a ride called "The Caterpillar".

By chance is anyone here from that area and remembers that ride?

I remember the Caterpillar.  I believe I rode it at our county fair.

Didn't they cover you up as you sat in a low-ride sort of gentle roller coaster?   It was tame compared to roller coasters, which I loathe.

Yes, that was it exactly.  It wasn't up in the air and it didn't really throw you around. It was just the fun of going around a track while the cover came over you.

I would never get on a roller coaster but you almost couldn't get me off of the Caterpillar.
