@lolakimono I borrow 95% of the books I read from the library, but I do own 3 boxes of books that I want to read (I pick these up at 2nd hand stores or library book sales), unless a book touches my soul to the point I just cannot live without it, I read a book and donate it to the library, I am not one who can tolerate clutter!

What is too many books? There's no such thing! I grew up in a house full of books!
I have about about 900 shelf feet of books ... wish I had room for more bookcases!

I love books, and am an avid reader, and I have too many of course, it is hard for me to get rid of my books...However I don't have them all out, the ones that I am getting rid of are packed away, and as soon as I find somewhere to donate them, I will.....I do believe in getting rid of books you aren't ever going to read, or you read them but they weren't that good, so you aren't going to pass them to sisters, or friends, get rid of them!!!!However with that being said, I love so many of my books, and many of them I re-read years later, so those I will never get rid of......That is one of my Summer projects to find somewhere to donate my books to.......Maybe it will end up being to my local library.

Several people mentioned finding a place to donate bllms, in my city I have donated many blkms to a local women's shelter and to a women's half way house in y neighborhood. Both were extremely
grateful! Women's shelters will often take children's books also. Another thought for children's book donations is your local e!ementzry schools??ibrari, as a volunteer I run the library at our local elementary school and am always grateful for book donations sin e our funds are very limited.

My home is full of books....bookshelves built into the recessed walls. Most books that won't be revisited have been donated or given away. It still leaves me with a library that I browse frequently. I'm very selective with the books that find a place on the shelves.

Nice idea to donate your overflow to your local library, but please consider the condition of the item. No kidding. I used to work in our local library and it was common for patrons to bring in boxes and boxes of used "items" after Great Aunt Tillie passed away. Many books were over 20 years old, musty and moldy. These were dumped in our trash container, as we didn't dare even go through the boxes, due to the mold & mildew. People just assume that a library will take it if it's a book. Please use common sense when donating. If it's too yucky for you to pick up with your bare hands, throw it out. Your library does NOT want junk. Our library had to institute a new polcy for book donations that an item had to be in good condition and not over 10 years old. I'm sure they will gladly accept good quality items & be grateful for the chance to recyle them. That being said, there are other places to donate, one being a VA facility or local nursing home.

This is a trick question, right? LOL!
I agree with @joannecha about cruddy books. Most libraries don't put donated stuff on the shelves, but rather sell them at Friends of Library sales--at least ours does.
Jails and other detention facilities are happy to accept them too.

eta...Have my eye on (another) one from Origami. Just need to figure out where it will go.
