OMG..I thought about that today..I had  long fall and a wig I wore in the 60's..my bf loved it too...I also had a short wig that my future MIL tried on...she was so precious. I miss those days!!!!!!

I remember those days! I had a bunch of falls. Sometimes I look at pics from the 60's-70's and laugh to myself. I wore these hair pieces that went down to my waist. Ripped jeans, total hippy!

@handygal2, it's true that wig manufacturers have dramatically increased the number of colors they make that have dark roots, considering it a "fashion" look, and a boost to realism.

But luckily, many in the industry offer both rooted and unrooted colors, so we can all be happy.  I say luckily, because although I'm not averse to a very subtle, shadowy root for myself, the quite dark ones that Hairdo does and Toni Brattin does, are not flattering to a big segment of the population.

If you naturally have very light brown/dirty blonde hair (like me), or lighter, all the way to towhead-- the dramatically dark roots look bizarre.  They don't go with your eyebrows, or the often pale or delicate complexion color schemes that fair haired people possess.

I echo others in recommending you check out lots of sites, like Cysterwigs, namebrandwigs, or Wigs.com to find unrooted or gently rooted styles.  Gabor is one wig maker who on some lighter color wigs, sensibly makes a subtle light brown, or even dark blonde root!  It looks fantastic!

I always choose ash blonde, cool or neutral blonde wigs, and then use taupe or light brown eyebrow pencil to put in lowlights for realism.  I also take regular root cover-up spray, in a light brown shade, and spray lightly along the part and even underneath some strands to give a very gently rooted effect.  Klutzy as I am, it actually looks good-- and I don't have to be stuck with ludicrously dark roots on my wig...

I think wigs are fun-- I had 3 of them during my chemo days and they were comfy and real-looking. The only thing I wish that the wig vendors would do is always have a brush/comb to help thevmodels  style them better---then they would look more natural. They are either put on way to high in the front or all tangled  on top and the sides. That is what makes them look like fake hair!!!! I got so good at joussing them up that no one knew I was wearing a wig.
