2023 was quite a year for my family, and for the world in general. I always pray for a new beginning for all of mankind, and for my family in particular. I hope the hardest times are behind us, although I'm realistic enough to know that there will always be difficult times.
so on this New Year's Eve, we will be settled in for a quiet evening and my prayers will be much the same as always for the world, for my own family and for all our dear friends here: good health, close friends and a loving family, enough prosperity to get us through and at least one good laugh every day.

A very happy NYE to all! I'm enjoying my rosé shrimp with basmati rice. I also cut up some fresh figs, added some goat cheese, pepper with evoo & balsamic vinegar. If I make the shrimp again I will decrease the red pepper flakes by half. It's spicy but not overwhelming.
This might have been a dish we would have tried at a restaurant. DH & I used to go out to eat on weekends so I would get a weekend break from cooking.
Hope the new year brings good things to all no matter how small.

We'll head out for a NYE church service at 6:00. Then I'll set out snacks for our evening and watch our team, the Green Bay Packers. Sometimes we have steaks, but DH grilled last night. I wanted to try the Omaha Steaks I ordered in December. Yum, but I should have went lighter on the seasoning. Hope we don't have garlic breath at church. Once the ball drops in NY, I'll be ready for bed.Have a Happy New Year everyone!

Thanks for the heads up about new thread. I was wondering when my threads were going to change, being a holiday weekend.

I had a very productive day. we took down the Christmas tree and wreaths. I bought a canvas tree bag during all the pre-Christmas sales and it was so much better than trying to stuff the tree back into the old box that it came in. we've been having to hold that box together with bungee cords for years.
I did a little house cleaning and laundry...more to follow.
tomorrow we're having a traditional southern New Year's Day meal with glazed ham, turnip greens, black-eyed peas and cornbread. I'll also have some cabbage. DH doesn't eat cabbage and pretends it makes him sick to even look at it .
our next big house project is in the planning stages. we're going to remove the light fixtures from the ceiling in the kitchen and breakfast area and have can lights put in both rooms. when we get that done I'll have a pot rack hung above the kitchen island, so I can finally unpack all my copper pots & pans. I've been doing some online research to find just the right pot rack. I want one made in the US and I want a certain style and size. I finally decided on one made by Enclume and looked at several websites that sell them. then I found one on eBay that was the exact style I want. it was a store display and I got it for about half price. yay!
@JudyL, I started on LP's The Madness of Crowds today. it's #17 out of 18. there's a LP group on Facebook and I've gotten several recommendations for authors to read when I finish this series. I understand there's another Gamache book in the making but it probably won't be out for a year. hope you're feeling better.
happy new year and big blessings to all.
here's a Florence, Ms. sunset.
have a peaceful evening, y'all.

We stayed up to watch the ball drop in Time Square. We're tired, so ready to call it a day. I can hear people lighting their fireworks outside. Thankfully, it doesn't bother Max anymore. He can sleep through anything. Tomorrow, DS's family will be by. The rain has stopped, so we plan to barbecue.
So many nice, meaningful posts. It looks like most our friends stopped by and found our new thread, except a few. Hopefully, we'll hear from them soon.
Sending blessings to All...Good Night
Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! 🎉🥂 Just finished having a juice glass sized mimosa!
@MariotaMurielle We call the can lights recessed or high hat lights. There are even pancake lights that look flat againast the ceiling. The recessed lights give plenty of light. Just make sure that they are LED lights. Many now are designed that you no longer need to change out the bulb, the entire fixture gets changed out.
My next project will be choosing tile for the master bath & getting the contractor to show me what the cabinet doors will look like. I need to see the color. Probably will e mail him tomorrow.
Happy Monday!
