@eadu4 "The mass smash and grabs were not going on in the 50s, 60s, and 70s or even the 80s."
Hate to break YOUR buble, but I lived through those above decades & ALL those things happen & NOT just in my neck of the woods.

@Mz iMac Respectfully, I also lived through those times and I do not remember gangs going through stores smashing and grabbing everything and 11-12 year olds car jacking people. Yes cars got "stolen" but not carjacked by armed 11 year olds. So what you are saying that you experienced multiple armed 11-12 year olds carjacking people in the 50s, 60s and 70s? You had shootings in fast food places like they do now? I grew up in the 60s-80s and no way was it as bad as it is today. Yes things happened but no way was it as out of control as it is now. But we each had a different perspective and experience of those decades. I'm sorry for what you went through.

Go back to the 60's.....maybe not so much.
The country was torn apart by the Vietnam War.
A neighbor was one of the students gunned down at Kent State by the National Guard for protesting.
There were riots and burning buildings.
Multiple high profile assassinations...JFK, RFK, MLK.
Charles Manson and his followers were on a murderous rampage.
Women fought for rights they did not have.
Crime also was happening.

@eadu4 I did not quote your kids carjacking comment. But I was aware of those other crimes you commented. Some I witnessed and some I was exposed to during the decades you mentioned.

@Enufstuff wrote:@Love to Run You are so right about those under reported crimes.
Just today, on our local news, they were talking about cold case rapes. There were two very young girls who were victims. The perp is on trial for committing the same horrendous crime against two other women.
Unfortunately, the 15 year statute of limitations has run out for the two women. With the young girls, there was no DNA evidence, so the defence lawyer is trying to get the case thrown out. That means that this monster could be free to do the same thing to other girls and women.
I think that in these crimes, there should be no statute of
limitations. That law should be changed. Years ago, women were afraid to report these things, especially if the perp was a "friend" or family member.
Others may not report for fear of not being believed, "he said, she said". Maybe they are afraid of retribution or just don't want to relive what they went through. Many people blame the victim, for the crime committed against them.
Now, with DNA, it is more likely to get a conviction, but it is too late for the victims of years ago.
I know of three past unreported cases among my own relatives. Two were children.
@Enufstuff I am so sorry to hear when justice is denied a victim simply because the perp has managed to avoid detection for a long enough period of time. Just disgusting.
I can't imagine this happening in my own family. I am so sorry this happened to your loved ones, I pray they find peace somehow.

I didn't think there was a statue of limitations on rape because women have coming forward 20 years or more later claiming they were abused. Does that depend on the state in which it happened?
The "good old days' is relative. People can see it through their own experiences or through the way society as a whole was. The 60's had good points and bad points. It depends on what part one wants to dwell on.
