What is this about "compassion and heart"? All that shows up is an exclamation mark. It seems that someone was talking about the past, but I don't have an idea what this thread is really about.

The original post was of a cartoon depicting the 60's as the good old days.  It said that era had sympathy and compassion and groovy music to boot.  I guess the OP couldn't handle the responses and deleted the post.

Yes, the OP must have naively assumed that everyone else was going to blissfully march to the same drummer.

Used to be able to leave your car doors unlocked, even house unlocked.  We always locked up, but many didn't.  Not the case anymore.

As is evident today, we still have wars.  And there are still some assassinations, not as heartbreaking as JFK, RFK and MLK, perhaps, but murder continues.  Unfortunately.

I agree with you. There has never been any decade without war, public uprising, etc.  If people think that things have changed for the better in these modern times they are delusional.

@lgfan Yes and while it's true that we didn't have the 24 hour cable news cycle or the internet, we still had daily news and newspapers.  I have worked at a PD for over 4 decades as my then husband and I have seen crime escalate through the years.

Actually crime has been trending downward over the past 3 decades. I know that doesn't track with certain narratives, but facts are facts. I call that delusional.

Figures lie and liars figure.  There are also many crimes that go unreported for various reasons.

Once upon a time there was a tavern
Where we used to raise a glass or two
Remember how we laughed away the hours
And think of all the great things we would do?
Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way
Then the busy years went rushing by us
We lost our starry notions on the way
If by chance I'd see you in the tavern
We'd smile at one another and we'd say
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days
Just tonight I stood before the tavern
Nothing seemed the way it used to be
In the glass I saw a strange reflection
Was that lonely woman really me
Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days
Through the door there came familiar laughter
I saw your face and heard you call my name
Oh, my friend we're older, but no wiser
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same
Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days

There has always been under reporting of crime, and I would dare say there was more in the past than today because of changing ideas around certain types of crime. So the impact of un reported crime transcends these figures and does not change them.

The "figures lie" quote is common among those who prefer dogma over facts, reason and logic.

You would dare say it but does it make it true.  Since you are so good at giving facts where is your verification.
