That compassion and heart thing is utterly ridiculous. People have always been people. Nothing happens today that didn't happen at any other point in history. Cell phones, computers and modern medicine are the miracles of our time. I'd be dead now if I lived in the 60s. I wouldn't have lived to see 60. But, yes. I think the music was better.

we hear more about crime because of technology and 24 hour news not that there is more crime than in the 50s or 60s. In addition, people didn't have guns of war in those days nor were there are as many automobiles. I would be willing to bet no African American would long for the good ole days, and rightfully so.

Reading these comments, I am reminded that we choose our perspective.

I don't know about the compassion and heart, but I love Mr. Peabody and Sherman. I think I'd change the line about compassion and heart to great Saturday morning shows for kids.

Used to be able to leave your car doors unlocked, even house unlocked. We always locked up, but many didn't. Not the case anymore.
As is evident today, we still have wars. And there are still some assassinations, not as heartbreaking as JFK, RFK and MLK, perhaps, but murder continues. Unfortunately.
I agree with you. There has never been any decade without war, public uprising, etc. If people think that things have changed for the better in these modern times they are delusional.

@lgfan Yes and while it's true that we didn't have the 24 hour cable news cycle or the internet, we still had daily news and newspapers. I have worked at a PD for over 4 decades as my then husband and I have seen crime escalate through the years.

You reminded me of the Robin Williams joke. "If you remember the 60's you were not there".

@avid shopper. It's very cowardly to delete your post just because some people disagree with it. So what? It's YOUR opinion. Differing opinions make boards like this interesting.
