It sounds to me like that you have just came into your own and are happy with yourself and your life. It is wonderful and I say congratulations and go for it. Do anything you want and follow your dreams. Believe in yourself and continue to step out of your box!!!

Today I am in real funk...your story/vision @Julie928...was needed. I am married, no kids....dh is a good guy, we are very compatable, we have always worked together, but work has slowed, so we are home more, together....I really do not like it, yes I know, it's his house too, don't need to be scolded about that, I am just used to more time in the house to myself or to do chores, etc with no one around, it is and will be a real challlenge if we actually sell our business. We have no hobbies.

Two friends have moved away in the last several years, one was my dear friend, we did a lot together, and we could confide in each other about anything, finding friends at my age 63, is not easy, I really miss the fun things we did together, it is hard to fill the huge gap in my life, a girl needs a good girl friend!!

My other two friends are friends from grade school, we have a long history together...but the two girls are sisters, and I often feel like I am looking in from the outside...I need to make some changes, probably more like an attitude adjustment, just not sure how to do it. So glad that you found your path and are following it. I hope you find that cabin you are looking for!!

Thank you everyone for your responses. I don't mean to leave anyone out, but I'd like to reply to some of your comments...

@Mary Bailey ~ Don't worry about the extra 10 pounds. When you're ready you'll take it off. You're still at an awesome weight!

@jeanlake ~ LOVE Thoreau! It just so happens one of the cabins I am interested in reminds me of a place Thoreau would visit ~ in the middle of the woods, on a lake, only cabin for miles. I just hope this city girl doesn't get too spooked at night. (I wonder if Thoreau ever got spooked?) LOL

@queendiva ~ Best of luck with your new townhouse! Sounds like an exciting new chapter in your life, too!

@itsmagic ~ Thank you so much! In the end I just feel better, and it's so much easier to be happy.

@Mom2Dogs ~ I'm sorry you're in a funk, believe me, I feel your pain. I love my husband to the moon and back but when he's home from work.....hmmm, not so easy. Like you, I have a routine and it's hard to stray from that when there's another person around. We both like to do our own thing while still (at least trying) to make time to do things together. This is the reason I am looking forward to my road trips ~ I love driving alone ~ just me and my thoughts.

My best and oldest friend lives in another state. We talk just about everyday but we don't get together very often. She has kids (we don't) and I get that she has responsibilities that I don't have. Sometimes you have to be your own best friend ~ do what makes you happy. I know I'm going to mess this up but here goes ~ there's a line in a Bette Davis movie (Now, Voyager) that goes something like this. A doctor told Bette Davis to "be interested in everyone, and everything." (If you aren't familiar with this movie she plays a dowdy woman who eventually comes out of her shell). I never forgot that line.

My husband retiring turned my life upside down and I have not recovered yet ..

its been 15 years ....We have absolutely nothing in common ....and I have

changed over the years and we have completely different beliefs about things .....

I tend to be a loner and need my alone time ....Oh well .. here we are !!!

It's sort of like that quote for "insanity", or call it coming to our senses.

Continue to do the same thing, but expect different results. But.....I prefer to think of it as the butterfly emerging!!!! Spread your wings and fly my girl!!!

@Mom2Dogs, Please, please, please, check your local Senior Center. I go to the sewing group today. I'm learning crochet, and I love it. One of the dear ladies, took me under her wing, and the lovely ladies on here, even have pointed me in directions to go forward. I love it. You get out and visit with some great women. I needed that. I hope you have one in your area and are as happy with it, as I am mine.
