Even if people aren't "overpurchasing" clothing, I'd bet $20 that most posters on here have bought a jar of a spice ... and then found the same spice at home, ready to be used! ![]()

I have specific tastes in styles and colors in clothes and shoes.
So, when I see "my" styles and colors, I buy duplicates.
I do exactly the same! If I like something I purchase duplicates (or even triplicates).
At one time I realized I could have a much more varied wardrobe and tried to stop buying two of everything but nope, I much prefer having my "security blankets".

Years ago, I had a varied wardrobe - and nothing to wear. Then in 1997 I read LInda Dano's book "Looking Great." Amazon blurb:
An award-winning TV actress and fashion consultant shares her beauty and fashion secrets in a guide to style that offers common-sense advice on shopping, fashion, and ways to look great without spending a fortune.

Linda Dano was always so tastefully put together--elegantly conservative. I might have to scout out this book!

I am in the process of "shopping" my pantry and freezer to declutter and use up items that were over purchased. We have 5 bags of frozen peas and noobdy in my family is crazy about peas! How did that happen? DD has also purchased a variety of frozen fruits to make smoothies which she rarely does. She is going to have to start using them.

She had very good taste! Didn't Linda have a product line on one of the shopping channels? I wonder what she's up to these days.

She was on QVC back in the 90s. That's when I first heard of her book.
I think you can still get it from Amazon. My copy was passed around to friends .... no idea who had it now.
Her advice worked really well for me all these years.

Based on your comment here, I ordered the book and have read a few chapters today.
I find it to be extremely helpful, and just posted a new thread on this in Fashion.
Thanks again for the rec!
