I absolutely hate to spend money on clothes, so I've never over purchased on wearable anything.

I do over purchase household supplies and basic stock food items in an effort to stay out of stores as much as possible.  Whatever we need is always here and easy to find.

Generally, no. I think sorting and purging through cabinets and closets on a regular basis can eliminate that problem.

I do keep a stock of a few items that I didn’t use to given the past couple of years but it’s confined to one pantry unit and a closet shelf.

I do it on stupid stuff like cotton rounds and flossing picks and socks.  I just need to put some of these type items in one place.

Dont even go there with Christmas bags.  I’m not kidding I have 75+ and our family have really cut down on gifts.   I buy for a couple friends but will never use all of these.   I’m ready to take them to work and let others have them.  I just can’t toss them.....

@KathyM23   you can have 50 of mine.  🤣

I have done this...and continue to do this...with groceries. I store extra groceries on garage shelves. I keep groceries that I go through frequently here in the kitchen. Sometimes, I think I'm soon going to be out of coffee or ketchup, for example, and instead of going out into the garage to check to see if I've already bought some, I'll assume I haven't and buy more. Then I get home with my groceries and while putting them away, discover I already have the item(s).

@bonnielu That does not pertain to me.  I do not like exess and have most things grouped to gether for storage...like wrapping paper, ribbon, etc.  All of that is in one place and when I need something I know where to look.

Same idea with cosmetis, cleaning stuff, etc.  I just hate overspending or having to much to store.

I have very little stored away except for clothes,  I have a spring/summer and fall/winter wardrobe.  My closet is switched out 2x year and stored under the bed.

There was a time pre pandemic that I did way too much shopping and I felt a bit guilty about my stock pile of merch. Well the good news is none of it went to waste.  I shopped my " store ," and was extremely happy to have my haul.

I've done it several times.  Oh well!

I'm sure you aren't the only one.  I sometimes do that.  I buy something only to realize that I already have it...sometimes in multiples.  Of course the realization only comes to me after the 30 days.  Not too long ago, I returned a pair of mid calf moto boots to another retailer.  When I tried them on, I remembered I bought those exact same boots last year.

I am guilty and just pretty much finished going through boxes and hanging racks of unsorted clothes that made a move.  Due to family issues, many were bought in stressful times, moved, then unpacked due to health issues and most are like new--and still great to wear because I am not a fashion follower much.

I have lost a little weight and am finding things I can wear again--so it was sort of fun!  AND bought some new things.

@bonnielu

You ask "is it just me"?

This I can tell you. "It ain't me".  Been a frugal buyer since I first started working, at 8 years old. Buy duplicates and not know it?  Nope, I spend too much time deciding the 1st putchase, and most of what I buy, is not put away for later use.
