Re: Do You Color (Yes! Color) In Your 'Spare' Time?

I don't see any point in it.  I would rather read or listen to a book, talk to my husband, go to the grocery store, cook something, watch the birds, read the newspaper, clean house, call a friend, take a walk or do a million other things I can think of.

I love coloring and find it very relaxing and an opportunity to be creative.  I even framed a few of my efforts.  My preference is markers/gel pens, etc.  I didn't enjoy the results I got with colored pencils.  I always loved coloring as a child.  Guess I never really outgrew it.  Glad it's more acceptable for adults now!!!

@Krimpette

I wonder if that's why I haven't enjoyed coloring that much as an adult...?

Maybe I need to get some markers.

When I retired I bought many books, pencils, markers and pens with every intention of coloring. Here it is a year and a half later and I've done half a picture. Maybe this winter..............?  I just can't seem to find the time.

@reiki604

I was afraid that would be what happened for me--or I'd lose interest--so I just bought an adult coloring book from the Dollar Tree and used colored pencils I already had.

...so I guess I'm out a dollar...

LoL

I recently bought a set of pastels (thick-ish sticks) on sale.  Now I'm wondering what to do with them.   Can I use them on canvas or on coloring book pages?  I recall using them on black poster board a hundred years ago (lol), but just wondering if I can paint  a small white 5x7 canvas black, and then draw my own design using the pastels?  Any suggestions?  I believe the box stated 'blendable', etc.   It's been so long ago that I don't recall how how I used those pastels.

@ROMARY

I'm not sure whether or not that would work, because of the texture of canvas.

I'll bet there are videos on YouTube regarding how to use pastels that would be helpful.

I tried to get into it a few months ago, but didn't find it that rewarding, though I really enjoyed coloring as a kid.

Maybe I'll try it again and see if I like it more.  I know that a lot of people find it calming; maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance.

@mistriTsquirrel  Good Morning! I believe it would be work a try for you to experiment with markers.  I just wasn't happy with the color saturation I was getting with colored pencils, even though many prefer that look.  Good luck!  Coloring is such fun!  (And can be challenging, as you can get so creative with different color combinations.)

Re: Do You Color (Yes! Color) In Your 'Spare' Time?

People at craft club keep asking me what I do with the pictures I have colored, and I show them the stack in my craft tote. I don't "do" anything with them - I just find coloring them relaxing. And it keeps me from eating in the evening.

@151949

I put the date I finished my color page and my initials on the back.  Then I put the color page into a clear document keeper page and keep them all in a three ring notebook. The front has a clear cover to place a page in and my *cover*  says *MAKE ART NOT WAR*  the back cover I place a page in that says  *GO WITH THE FLOW*.

This is all good fun and we all need more fun in our lives.

Keep Calm and Color On,

CAT

No! Coloring bored me as a child and sounds no less boring now.

Re: Do You Color (Yes! Color) In Your 'Spare' Time?

Yes ... I have a great collection of coloring books, crayons, colored pencils and colored markers.  Creative Haven has the best coloring books for adults.

Before the coloring books, I would just freehand draw testing color combinations and shapes for my freeform yarn projects.  The coloring books have proven to be great inspiration - and I'm having a great time!
