Some people have no good options because life has a way of throwing curve balls when least expected like keeping parents alive by paying the life sustaining meds they need to be kept alive, and spending a lot from your retirement nest egg $ to do that.

I for one could never let aged ill parents die an early death without exhausting every possibility of helping them live comfortably with expenses paid for if they run out of their own funds, until the day comes when God callls them home.

Also I wold move them in to live with me and care for them just as they sacrificed and cared for and raised all of their children with religious convictilons, love, compassion, respectt, great morals, and values.

Giants Lover, I so agree with you. I would and have done all I could to help my parents, children or siblings.

You are preaching to the choir when it comes to medical care for a Type 1 diabetic. Insulin costs me thousands of dollars a year. Both basal and bolus insulins are two of the most expensive drugs in this country. And to think when it was first discovered it was supposed to be for "everyone" no matter their financial status.

I feel for you. When my dear friend was on chemo and/ or some other cancer medication she was able to get help from the manufacturer. Actually what would have been $6,000/mo ended up costing her nothing. Have you considered contacting any of the manufacturers of your medication? If not, try to find someone who knows how to do it and ask for help. Wishing you the best, good luck.

@Group 5 minus 1 . What is insurance for? It should pay your medical bills. That is why we have it and pay dearly for it. Why should we have to pay more? And sometimes outrageous amounts?

for those who choose to defer medical treatment or decide to forgo taking their medication, you have a choice. You could wait and die.

And, for those who choose food over treatment or medication, you would choose to die?

@Group 5 minus 1 Geeeeeeeesh! The OP starts with a post that makes absolutely no sense and then has to completely clarify it. It is a sensitive and controversial topic for so many. They don't want to give their opinion, but want to get others going. Then they never come back, not once to even check in. Something's not right, I'll certainly keep away from this poster.

Thanks @Lindsays Grandma . The manufacturers distinctly claim Medicare recipients are ineligible for any kind of help. Levemir and Novolog do have incentive programs for people with private insurance. I posted about these plans here a few months ago. After 2 years, though, the codes stop working.

There is always cheap insulin available at Walmart but it has far more incidences of hypoglycemia and isn't available in pen form.

My daughter is in healthcare so I am getting help from her navigating the different insurance companies. A plan from my husband's company will probably be the best choice as he has a retiree plan available this coming November. It can be complicated, though. I feel for anyone dealing with the high cost of prescription drugs...
