I thought a pharmacologist worked in a lab developing meds and also does clinical trials in a clinic? Lost touch with a friend years ago but this is what she did.

A pharmacist and a pharmacologist are not the same profession, although both have a PhD in pharmacology.

A pharmacologist in research.

A pharmacist dispenses medicine in a number of different settings and is an expert on drug usage, mechanisms, side effects, interactions, and contraindications.

A pharmacy tech works under the supervision of a pharmacist in dispensing medication and does not have a PhD.

@bikerbabe, I know the difference but it seems as if the talk is about a pharmacologist doing the treatment or maybe I misunderstood because I know he or she does clinical trials so maybe that's what he's doing at the clinic.

That's what I described in my post. A pharmacologist.

I love my Pharmacist and a Pharmacist makes more money than a Pharmacologist.

Regarding statins. My doctor started me on a statin years ago. HUGE benefit for my health issues! With muscle weakness/pain? Work those muscles! Don't just resort to taking another pill. Get out there and exercise! I have NO problems whatsoever with any muscles issues because I exercise by walking every single day.

@wagirl   Interesting...I have never heard of a Pharm. doctor...does that person work in a pharmacy, or is their specialty assisting patients with their medication and have a stand alone office....how do you go about finding such a doctor?

Consider yourself fortunate that you CAN walk when you are on statins.  I have walked 5-6 miles a day for over 30 years.  Four weeks on a statin and I couldn't even stand up.    The previous statin I was 2 miles up a trail and one leg flat out gave out on me.  I had to have two people help me back to the trailhead.  So embarrassing.

And muscle weakness is not the only side effect.  Believe me!

Every body is different.

@NYCLatinaMe --Yes I know the risksWoman Sad---have been on most of the types of statins, even Niaspan which is niacin, and with everyone of them, I suffered the side effects---the last one I took, in 2006, was crestor and while it did wonders with my #'s, it also was responsible for putting walnut shaped bumps on both  my achilles tendons--and I had surgery to remove them --before realizing that  was a side effect, that was not included on the huge long list of side effects---- up until that year, there had been ONLY 45,000 reports of that condition. Not enough complaints to have it included. I go in a few times a year for blood work--always have. My many  insurances did not want to cover Repatha at all in my younger years --said it was too experimental and too costly--bast@#Ds!!! Had to wait until I got on Medicare for approval. Was not offended by what you wrote. Just frustrated with the whole thing!!

@ID2 --you are a lucky one!! After a few months on every statin I tried and there were MANY--I couldn't even move without feeling like I got hit by a train. It hit me especially hard in my right hip.--- and I was tending to 2 little kids and two story house and a spouse so was not inactive!  Exercising is not the answer for everyone and not exercising  is not the reason for such reactions.

@Mom2Dogs ---I would contact one of your drs or even the hospital to see if there is such a person there. There are 2 in the medical clinic I go to. I was referred by my cardiolgist years ago. Mine doesn't just work with lipid issues, but also with diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking cessation and the like. No, he has his own office in the clinic and takes patients----my primary dr also referred me to him for high blood pressure issues too.
