Andrew Lessman vitamins an observation....

[ Edited ]

  I've taken Andrew Lessman's vitamins in the past but stopped because he seems to put mega doses of some vitamins and if you take multiple mixes then it can become mega mega doses.

Also, I don't believe they are third party tested (not sure about this), is this true?

If not I wonder why? Has he addressed this before?

This is a must for me....

@GingerHead I agree they just have too many ingredients at high doses for me to fool with.  I also think there are so many more that are third-party tested and from reputable brands at all prices out there to consider.

No proof of any kind by the medical/science communities that vitamins are beneficial

in any way.

ITA, as my PCP has said if a little is good, then a lot must be better is just bad science.

Vit B and C are water soluble, you can tinkle out too much. Vit D is fat soluble and can be toxic at high levels.

I've taken his Omega 3 for years but he now adds Ahi flower? My body doesn't seem to like this formulation.

Off topic but I wonder why he's never in the HSN studios but always broadcasts from Henderson, NV.

I tried a couple of his vitamins years ago and did not like them.  Also unless there is a specific need for a vitamin determined by blood tests I question the need for them.

@GingerHead  I agree that he puts mega doses of some vitamins in his products. I liked his multi vitamin but the biotin was way too much for me to continue to take it.

It was four thousand per cent of RDA.

His bottle doesn't say USP  or NSF certified, so I wonder about third party testing.

He was speaking from his offices in California (he said). I don't know why he's allowed to show up 2-3 times a year when all the other Vendors show up. Plus when the vendors are on we can talk with the,m. Not him..

@ellaphant

You might find this interesting.

Recent studies have found that a daily multi vitamin/mineral has been shown to "improve memory and slow cognitive aging in adults".

I really found this interesting, I'm a believer in supplements....

@Sooner , @Snowpuppy , @piperbay

Yes, totally. His doses are off the charts( in some cases)  and I did notice that especially with the biotin @piperbay . When I was taking his vitamins many years ago I was taking a couple of different formulations and noticed that they all had high percentages of specific supplements and together it was way off the charts high.

I guess the principal that "the dose makes the poison" could be applied here for sure and I don't trust anything that's not USP or NSF verified.

@kaydee50 @MamasAngels  I'm not sure why he's able to broadcast elsewhere, not sure where he is. haha, interesting.

Re: Andrew Lessman vitamins an observation....

Hi, @GingerHead , @Snowpuppy !

I have to agree above the mega doses.

 Also, for years I'd taken Centrum Silver 50+ and Hair-Skin-Nails vitamins.  Both of these vitamins have vitamin B6 at 294% of the RDA.  I ended up with neuropathy in my hands and feet from too much B6.  Even though it's water-soluble, my serum levers were above 94 whereas the upper range of normal is 21.7.  Stopped taking both and the neuropathy in my feet resolved.  Turned out I had carpal tunnel in both hands, so had surgery to address.

Funny thing is, years ago as I understand it, B6 was used to treat neuropathy, but the therapeutic range must be pretty narrow.
