I wrote in another thread that the CDC and Surgeon General stating that we are going to change strategy from containment to mitigation. Italy seems to be sticking with the containment strategy, which hopefully will work for them. But for our much bigger country the health officials seems to be moving in another direction. I imagine NY, WA and CA will be the first to change strategy. As Dr. Fauci & Co. remind us, at least 97% of those who get COVID-19 will make a full recovery -- take your positive news where you can get it.

Interesting...my DD just told me that she has a friend who teaches in a Texas school district. The teachers were told that if they leave the US during spring break and they come back sick with the virus, they will not be paid for time off. Of course, they must use their sick leave etc first, but after that they will not be paid for time off.
Sound very unfair, but am sure that the school board made that decision. I would be really interested to hear if anyone - found in this situation - would appeal this decision.
PS -- I think people should use common sense in view of this deadly virus or influenza. Of course, wash hands, stay away from sick, take care of one self etc. Though this virus is like influenza, I think the preventive difference is...there is a vaccination shot available to prevent or to minimize the effects of the flu. Unfortunately, many people don't take advantage of this flu shot. For this current Coronavirus, there is no preventive vaccination -- yet.

I definitely would see someone appealing that decision.
Since the incubation time is between 1-14 days
(most show sign 5 days in), there's a good chance that hypotical
teacher caught the virus right in their backyard. Catch it, go on
spring break then come back & shows signs of sickness.
And every day it's beginning to show, with more & more cases
being detected, it's more probable one will catch the virus INSIDE
the US versus than outside.

I was told once by a boss of mine, "you can't tell anyone else how to feel". I guess that is true, even though I said what I said to try and reassure someone that things would be OK and not to worry.
There are a lot of what ifs in this world. Just when things are going along smoothly, something else will happen to cause ripples or waves - things get better, things get worse - that's life!!
I do think the fear being spread by our news media is off the charts though.
I am more worried about the daily dumping of carcinogens and chemical poisonings into our fresh water supply for 1.5 MILLION people by a chemical company here where I live. And the dumping of waste into our ocean. Governor does nothing. 7 people get a flu and he declares a state of emergency. wth? ![]()
