Re: Welcome to the September Exercise Thread

I think the heat wave is done here, too. It's so nice to have cooler temps.

The trees are odd this year......leaves haven't started to change color yet, but many trees have already dropped their leaves. I wonder why?  I hopev they're not sick.

Foxxie, glad the fire scare turned out to be  nothing.

Mick, there are fires near you? I hope not....I know the smoke and ash affects areas long distances away.

DrKelli and Laura, I hope work is going ok for you. Hang in there.

Hi to Bopper and Lucy and Judy and Cater ... we haven't heard from you for awhile, Cater, send ing you good wishes. I hope this is a good day for all. 😊

Re: Welcome to the September Exercise Thread

Good morning all!

@Mmsfoxxie--good thing it wasn't 'real'!  As a safety person, I understand (and I know your circumstance wasn't a drill) having regular emergency drills, but sometimes it really sucks--especially for those folks in the pool!  We just had ours last week.  We are on the 24th floor and you MUST evacuate, so I got double exercise because of the stairs.

There is a board meeting at work today, so all the executives are in that meeting, which means I will get a lot done.

I have Restorative Yoga this morning.  This will make you guys laugh, my doctor actually told me that I might want to increase my exercise!  I don't think she heard me when I told her I worked out 5 days a week.

Gotta go--hope you all have a great day!

Re: Welcome to the September Exercise Thread

Hey all, I agree it's back to Fall temps here too and quite chilly breeze and I'm not complaining.  And the leaves, yes falling off here too almost crinkled up and brown.  Only color around me is actually yellow.  But I hear if we drive West about 45 minutes is red color.  It's because I'm closer to the big lake and they take on different color here.  We may ride this weekend to look for Fall color.

Dr.Kelli funny how Dr's can say that, do they look in the mirror, just sayin.  I had lost over 10 pounds at my last appt. and she didn't even mention it to me, and here I was all excited because of it.  Probably because she isn't a prime example herself.  Remember Survivor tonight!

Those CA fires look very scary, can't even imagine and then the hurricanes, I'm glad I live where I do, I'll put up with snow.

Feeling a little scratchy throat and runny nose so am doubling up on the Vit C and Airborne, don't want to be sick.

Lucy are you doing okay you seem to be missing, thinking of you.

I got groceries and had my regular Chiro appt. this morning, didn't take me very long as I don't doddle, I get what I need and head home.  The traffic with all this construction is insane, sick of detours and people on my bumper thinking they can magically go faster in 1 LANE!  Chillax People!  Haha

Have a good one everyone!

Re: Welcome to the September Exercise Thread

DrKelli, what a goofy doctor. I guess docs are programmed to say exercise more since many people don't.

Bopper, there's lots of road work here, too. It's nice when it's done, but aggravating until then.

I got the Alegrias tsv yesterday. Sigh. This style fits differently than my others and they're way too big....about an inch too long. Back they go. I knew I shouldn't try again to order shoes. Further evidence I really need to buy locally so I can try on. I no longer order clothes online, either. Same reason.

Re: Welcome to the September Exercise Thread

Good day everyone.  The temperature was perfect yesterday except that the rain we need did not come.  We haven't needed to cut our grass for two weeks because it looks brown and dorman.  We did save the $30 weekly landscaping fee, though.  Gotta find that positive in the negative, right?

If I can get moving early, I'm going to do that 8:15 Thursday Zumba class.  Scratch that....just glanced at the clock and it's already 7:05 am.  So walking will be my main event.  Deep down, I probably didn't want to go to that class.  It's called Zumba Tone because it uses mostly weights.  I know weight training is good but since I take multiple classes most days, I think I use weights too often even though I don't use more than 3lb ones.  I always thought weights should only be used every other day unless you're alternating the body part.  One instructor that I mentioned this to said that it's ok to do this everyday, randomly.  Hmmmm.

Question:  how does a family of two (that eats out once or twice a week) pay $153 for groceries and barely have meat in the cart?  I'm going to have to start shopping at Aldi.

Gym Problems:

#1  The teacher asks if anyone has ever heard of ZZ Top after playing "Gimme all your Lovin" for the legs track.  Say what?  Smiley Surprised

#2  During the triceps track, she asks "What song is this?  I love it!  I have no idea who this is!"  Song playing:  Billy Ocean's "Get out of My Dreams Get into my Car"  Smiley Sad

#3  Karma!  Someone asks who sings the song playing during the cool down track.  There was an audible gasp by the teacher and some of us in the room including myself.  Song playing:  MIchael Jackson's "Will you be there?"

Doesn't feel real good, does it, when others make you feel old.  Smiley Very Happy

The 80s were NOT that long ago!!

Re: Welcome to the September Exercise Thread

Hi everyone! I have been burning the candle at both ends. I enjoy being busy but I don't enjoy chaotic and I have to say, that's what it's been. So if I don't read and post here, it's nothing personal, my schedule changes day to day so I'm just doing the best I can. Lots of house stuff now, things are moving quickly as closing day approaches(suppose to lay tile today, they did the stone front last week). DH was in DC(left Sunday after church) all week so I'm on my own for most of the stuff.

Pitch black out this morning and you could see every star in the sky, very peaceful. That's so grounding, every day God seems to be giving me just what I need to keep me going. And, yes, cooler temps here which really helped this a.m....I ran 4 miles without stopping and felt great after taking Lucy for 2...no speed though because I'm fasting today(something new for me) and I had on my pilates/Barre pants that kept falling down. I have different clothes for each sport/class and it is giving me a lot of extra laundry on top of doing laundry for 4 of us(We're living here for free plus they all work so I wouldn't have it any other way)...seems like it's for 7 people with the work-out gear.

I have Pilates at 10 and am really going to push for the Tower today as we haven't done it yet this week and I really like it. Although I am sore from yesterday so maybe I shouldn't.  I did a CF-style work-out and yoga and my traps and biceps are sore so I will have to take it easier today plus I'm hiking afterwards and it's still going to be warmer this afternoon. I'm so jealous of those 5 states that have snow already.

We are planning a couple of big trips so that just seems to be one more thing to work on but know it's worth it. We're doing NYC for Christmas(provided no major illnesses) and are also planning on renting an RV and going to the Appalachian Mountains and Aracadia State Park for some serious hiking(we bought Lucy a new hiking sling and she loves it!). With 4 adults, 3 dogs, and a cat...doesn't that sound like fun? I know you're all jealous...wink, wink.  Smiley Tongue

nomless and bopper...I got a pair of Dansko mary-jane clogs from the Q and I love them.  So much so, that I came back for a 2nd pair(color). So comfortable right out of the box..they had all 5-stars last time I looked. We have the dead leaves here too..just like last year, but then you have a beautiful one here and there so hopefully it's a start.

Dr.kelli...I'm doing yoga too, I love what it does for your bod. One of the ladies I hiked with teaches yoga so we did some out in the woods - so energizing. I went to a doctor last week and he said something that made me very happy...he may need glasses but of course I absolutely love him now...lol!Smiley Wink But, yes, usually they are in their own world.

Mssfoxxie...if you're doing light weights like that, you can do them back-to-back unless you're sore, then I wouldn't. The every other day is more for heavy weights and/or if you're sore. I do back-to-back with my classes and even Platform is quite intense but when I'm able to do CF-style weights, I don't do strength the day after.  You rock! I have a lady in 2 of my classes that is in her 70's and can lay her stomach flat on her extended legs and grab her toes. We're becoming friends...very sweet and always on the go.

Laura...hope the job is going well and maybe you've heard from the other company(hospital I believe). I haven't read all the way back so please forgive me if you're already working there...if so, congratulations...lol!

MickD...Hope the pond is in...looks like it could double as a pool! Also hope your foot is okay...my shoulder is giving me fits and I won't even get into my neck.Smiley Frustrated

Judy...hope your trip was great, I didn't see a post from you lately. Have a wonderful day everyone!

Re: Welcome to the September Exercise Thread

Here are the clogs. I really didn't get them for cuteness, just wanted something to slip on and off when I go to class because we wear yoga/pilates socks so I don't like messing with laces...but, they are kind of cute and I've already had a few people ask where I got them.

Good grief, I thought I kept my post short...haha!  I guess posting once or twice a month makes that difficult.

Re: Welcome to the September Exercise Thread

Good morning everyone!  I hope everyone had a great yesterday and a good night's sleep.  These cool nights are great.

@Iluvlucy thanks for the tips about the weights.  Yes, light weights are all I use.  I sometimes have shoulder and neck pain.  Not like before I started doing this program.  Love this place!  You are a very busy lady and it seems that everything is going well now.  So happy for you @Iluvlucy.

@Laura14, I did an unexpected class yesterday.  The usual instructor for this class was absent so as I went past and saw one of my favorites teaching, I found me a spot and began happily working out.  Five minutes in, a lady can running in and positioned herself where?  Right close next to me of course, lol.  I didn't let it ruin anything.  At the end of the routine, I happily moved to a big vacant space up front.  Safety first!

Btw, the absent instructor is good, too, but she does these slow routines using Sinatra type music from broadway shows.  Too slow.  My mind drifts and my Fitbit barely moves, lol.  (It's all about the Fitbit, you know, lol).  She's great but not for me.

@DrKelli, is there a reason why most Instructors prefer the music very loud?   Or is it a senior thing to prefer it lower.

Walking and cardio this morning.  Enjoy!
