Re: Welcome to the October Exercise Thread

Good Morning, yet another rainy day, flooding is occuring in some spots but that being said I am not in Michaels path and I am forever thankful.  Praying for those in the path of this hurricane.

DrKelli, my friend used to get Hello Fresh, I'd love to try it but we couldn't afford it but it sounds perfect for you.   I love being in the kitchen so I'm sure I would enjoy it.  Get lots of ideas too.  I saw a recipe for Pumpkin chili that looked good made with ground turkey.  Lots of good things in it that help blood pressure and your health in general.

Foxxie enjoy your volunteering today, must be nice to just chat with folks too.  Did you find a comfortable shoe?

Laura stay safe, this is no joke.  My friend has a camper in a park there and they left it and went to a hotel.

I forgot to check in yesterday, it was TG day, today is Gazelle day and I just got home from shopping.  It was pouring while I walked into the store, I had my Columbia jacket on with a hood thank goodness.

Judy I agree any movement is better than none and your doing great adding in a little more each day.

I got a my first pair of TOMS shoes yesterday, a red plaid and I do like them but they seem a bit on the narrow side and it looks like they do not make wides.  Many shoe companies don't carry wide.  And with a sock I need the width.  I also notice even on the Q the shooties (shoe boots) the models wear no socks.   In the North where I am a sock is a must and shooties are put away until snow melts.  We have to pull out our Sorels, or something similar.

I am waiting for Tony Little's TSV boot to arrive, it is water resistent they said and has 3 layers of memory foam so I'm hoping to use it for the trail.  We'll see when it comes.  I think it's coming today actually.

Stay safe everyone!

Re: Welcome to the October Exercise Thread

@bopper  I heard that the Speedway opened up all of their camping sites to the evacuees.  I hope your friends come through okay.  They should if they are in Georgia.  This one is moving really quickly too which is a good thing.

I am in North Georgia just above where they think the brunt is going to hit.  They said this morning spotty showers and then the bulk of the rain and wind tonight.

Wrong!  It's been raining for the past several hours here.  Nothing spotty about it so we'll see about the rest of it.  I have a feeling I am in for an interesting night.

We'll see if I make the 5am Power class tomorrow morning.  I may turn into Dorothy trying to get there if it gets windy enough.

Re: Welcome to the October Exercise Thread

Good Morning!  Actually its almost afternoon.

Last night when I got home from work I was in so much pain and my good foot/ankle was so swollen that I said ok, enough is enough.  So today I made an appt. with the foot doctor.  He can't see me until the 19th but thats ok, at least the appt. is made.

Because I was hurting so much last night, decided this morning no work out for me.  Give my feet a break.  Do you think my sweet kitty would let me sleep in a bit.  Oh no!  I had to get up and feed him!

Hope everyone is enjoying their day!

Re: Welcome to the October Exercise Thread

@JudyL  Glad you are getting yourself taken care of. I hope you find relief soon.

Hurricane Mikey came through overnight.  Didn't see too much on my way to the gym.  Too dark out yet.  Got there and the back of the room was wet.  Spent the first few minutes mopping up.  The rain must have come in under the emergency door or blown it open.

There were only 14 brave souls this morning so it was nice to breathe again.  Adonis is still MIA.  He must have switched to a different class who pays him tribute or has totally been mesmerized by glass.  Nudie and Ms. Rudeness and Uncle Vinny braved the elements and were there.

Next week we get new routines and music.  All increased weight factor.  Since I've upped my weight the past two weeks, bring it on!

Hope everyone has a nice Thursday.  Tonight we are finally supposed to get our long awaited Fall weather.  I may actually wear boots and long sleeves tomorrow instead of a sundress.  Woohoo!

Re: Welcome to the October Exercise Thread

Good morning all.

Well, we got our share of rain yesterday but it was welcomed because TruGreen had put down grass seed still trying to correct the over fertilizing they did last spring.  I cancelled them after that but they offered me a lower rate and promised to fix things.

@JudyL, I hope your foot issue isn’t too serious!  Maybe you can do some chair exercises in the mean time.  There are plenty to see on YouTube or you can make up your own.  I still do them sometimes when the arthritis in my feet give me grief.

Thursday.  Early Zumba.  And I’ll probably walk a mile or two.  I dread it cause it’s too early for me.  @Laura14, I don’t know how you go to your gym at the crack of dawn.  Maybe I could if it was everyday.  But my classes start at different times every morning.  I like to eat at 7 am....can’t workout on an empty stomach anymore.  Might get a drop in my blood sugar level and get dizzy.

Have a great day everyone.

Re: Welcome to the October Exercise Thread

Good morning, all--I hope none of you were impacted by Michael!  @Laura14, it sounds like you were a bit, but I'm glad you had power and it was just a litle floor mopping (and thank you for doing that--I don't think anyone at our gym would take the time).  I used to work out to a DVD at 4:15 when I worked in H*** because it was the only time I could do anything.  By the time I got home, I was so emotionally drained that all I could do was lay on the couch.

Today is Zumba and it sounds like I will become the "permanent" instructor.  They wanted me to switch to Tuesday, but I try to do all my work travel early in the week and I have small group on Tuesday--which I have done for almost 5 years, so I told her no.  It really isn't right to ask someone who has been in the Thursday class for almost 5 years and teaching (subbing) for over a year, to move classes.  So she told the new person she could teach Tuesday during the day or Thursday at night.  It was the new instructor who asked if I would move.  I thought that was rude.  I'll go to the Tuesday class when our group leader is on vacation.

So the most thankless job on the planet is being on your HOA board.  The meeting went on for an hour and a half last night and finally at 7, I said, I have to leave.  I hadn't eaten dinner and I wanted to watch Survivor.  Plus--we have ANOTHER meeting next month (the annual meeting).  I am so ready to get off this board.  I had a crazy moment yesterday.  I was getting ready to go to the meeting and couldn't find my keys.  I finally got my spare and took off. You have to understand--my driveway is incredibly steep.  When I got to the second stop sign in my subdivision--about a half mile from my house.  Some guy next to me and honked--I thought it was someone I knew so I waved--the passenger rolled down their window and he said--you have some keys on your trunk.  Not IN it, but ON it!  So I found my missing keys--I cannot believe they didn't fall off.  I am so grateful that I found them and that guy spotted them before I got any further!

Hope you all have a great day!

@DrKelli  That is when you know you need a break!  Glad you decided to take it.  Congrats on the Zumba.  And yeah that newbie needs a foot up her rear.

Re: Welcome to the October Exercise Thread

Hey everyone, well the rain,,,,my goodness.  I put on rain boots and wanted to see the trail, took Logan and I don't think I"ll see dry ground until next summer, this won't sink it, it's too much.  Logan's belly was all wet, almost over my boots which are mid calf...It quit for now and is very windy but better than you all down near Michael.

Has anyone baked with gluten free flour?  I tried it just now for cookies for my granddaughter and the batter is horrid, my normal recipe too.  Very metallic tasting...I don't want to throw it out so making just 1 cookie to see what it tastes like.  My whole mouth is icky now..   I may try adding in some regular flour to change the taste but the point was that gluten seems to bother me, and I wasn't having her eat an entire batch of cookies...anyways, not the end of the world.

Did Total Gym functional fitness 2x ,  and then Rosalies workout for women, gazelle also.

Dr. Kelli sounds like a busy day, I recorded Survivor so haven't watched it yet.

Judy sorry about your feet, dear heavens sounds painful. .I agree with foxxie though try chair exercise. any movement is good.

Nomless thinking of you and missing you.

Waving to everyone!

Re: Welcome to the October Exercise Thread

@bopper  Very windy here too with Michael clearing out.  I may actually get to open the windows tonight and let some fresh cool air in.

I do not bake with gluten at all.   I decided to cut all grains out of my diet in June.

I usually ground almonds in the VItamix or you can buy almond flour now in most stores and use that.  I also use garbanzo bean flour (available in my grocer for about $3 a bag) to make pizza crusts or falafels.

I have made pancakes, muffins, pumpkin bread, and almond bread all by using almond flour instead.  I have also tried flaxseed but I am not a huge fan of the taste.  I prefer almond flour better.

I have not made cookies but you may want to try it.  I know they also make coconut flour if almonds are not your thing and coconut would work better with whatever cookie you are trying to bake.

Re: Welcome to the October Exercise Thread

I had a brand new person in Zumba today and she had such a good time--it was infectious!  I hope she comes back!
