if youre interested. Been taking tirzepatide shots since Feb 13. Saw PCP yesterday. 24 pounds lost. Four pounds from goal weight. My labs are great. Triglycerides almost within normal range-down twenty points since March. In part due to addition of fish oil supplements. My doctor asked if I'm happy- I practically shouted YES. told him I like how I look and feel; confidence level is way up now.  he said the psychological benefits of this drug for me are as important as the medical. Also newer research is showing these drugs to have positive impact on cardiac health and kidney function, aside from the weight loss component. For example there is a benefit for patients with history of congestive heart failure (I'm one of them) to where there is less likelihood of recurrence. Don't quote me but I think I understood it that way. Doc is reducing my dose back to where I started, which will cost about half of what I'm paying now. This will allow me to stay on the med and not regain the wt. Biggest concern for him and me is protein intake. Not getting nearly enough because I'm seldom if ever hungry. So I need to do something about that or my muscles will waste away. Ordered a case of Premier Protein shakes.

Is this a GLP-1 drug?  I saw a segment on the news the other day about newer versions, like a once-a-month shot and oral meds.  But another was a cocktail to counteract the side effect of muscle loss.  I knew there was a possibilty of muscle loss with statins, but I had not seen that side effect associated with GLP-1 meds.  They interviewed a girl who was on a GLP-1 and said she planned to stay on it for the rest of her life, but she did admit that she could tell that she had lost muscle.

@smoochy Congratulations! You did so well. I have been on Mounjaro since Sept 2022 and have lost and kept off, 92 pounds. I am Diabetic and will be on it forever. I am happy about that.

My health has improved so much with this drug, my A1C, liver enzymes, etc, etc are all normal. My CRP that indicates inflammation went from >8 to 1. Below 1 is normal. I am waiting for that day to happen when I go below 1.

I am a RN and see patient's in their homes. Many Cardiologist now are prescribing the injectible drugs and Jardiance for cardiac patients.

Some may try and put you down for taking the drug, but they don't understand that traditional diet and exercise do not work for most.

The medication is an evidenced-based way to lose weight and improve your health.

Congratulations! You must be so happy. It is so difficult to lose weight especially for the over 60 crowd. These drugs seem to help with the struggle.

I have problematic indigestion problems..soft stomach, bloating etc. I have to be careful about what I eat.

Did you have any issues with your stomach taking this medication? I want to try it but feel I am not the right candidate because of my weak stomach. I talked to my Dr. and she said I should be okay, but I would never go through her office as the price is off the charts. Thanks for sharing.

I saw a news story earlier that said a couple of the pharmaceutical companies that make these types of weight loss drugs are now or will be soon selling directly to the public.  And the cost will be significantly less that way.

@smoochy congratulations on your success. Are there potential serious side effects listed in the insert for this drug? I know those things are rare, but I'd want something that wouldn't possibly create a worse problem.

yes there are potentially serious side effects as with any drug. I have experienced occasional mild nausea. And constipation. Also some fatigue, but is that due to the drug or my old age? Lol. Overall the benefits have outweighed the risks. When the price of these GLP-1 drugs comes down i think many more folks will decide, with their docs ok, to give them a try
