Cranberry in supplement form, D Mannose and vitamin C.

Keep drinking lots of water. Stay hydrated. Some meds will cause dehydration and will require you to drink more water than you are used to.

You can take cranberry pills if you don't want to drink the liquid. Also there is cranberry juice that doesn't have a lot of sugar in it. Cranberry juice has always helped me, my daughters (3) and other people I know. My one daughter takes the cranberry vitamins.
The Dr told a friend of mine to not hold the urine when she has to go to the bathroom and that helped her.

A doctor once told me to avoid spicy foods as a possible cause. That kind of surprised me.

@KCDiva,
Per my ob/gyn:
Original formula, Ocean Spray cranberry juice, 8oz daily, alters the PH in the urinary tract, making it inhospitable to bacteria that cause UTIs.
Ocean Spray brand has the right concentration to have the desired therapeutic effect.
This is his 1st choice since it's very effective, widely available, affordable to most patients, and doesn't have unwanted side effects or interactions with most meds patients may be taking.
When I worked with patients, they'd receive 4oz for breakfast and 4oz in the evening, approx 12 hours apart. That kept the PH level in their urinary tract from reverting back.

When I went to the urologist several years ago, I noticed he had pamphlets for these in the waiting room.

Estrogen cream..the local kind (not pills) helps too! Apply locally according to directions. Of course this requires a prescription. The loss of estrogen is why we are more prone to uti's after menopause.
