I usually don't get colds too often but this has to be one of my worse colds yet. This is my 12th day and I'm still hacking away expecially at night coughing gets bad. I did go to the walk in doctor today and had a lung xray no pneumonia but doctor says bronchitis doesn't show up on xray. She did though gave me antibiotics. I live in Wisconsin and colds are going around probably due to our crazy midwest weather. The doctor also had me use a pulmo aide inhaler in the office. It didn't help my coughing. Anyone here used it and did it help you?

I’ve had a bronchial virus for almost six weeks. I’m still coughing and exhausted. Two friends also have it, we monitor each other’s progress. All three of us are at the same level. I took a round of antibiotics. Didn’t help. I’m planning on at least two more weeks of hard coughing. Lots of mucus at first. Three boxes of kleenex.
Good luck to you. Only advice I can offer is rest and lots of water. I used a Breo inhaler the first two weeks. Friends didn’t. Didn’t make a difference.

Sporatic flu activity is still being reported in Wisconsin. This year’s shot was only effective against the earlier strain of flu and has had no protection against this still circulating strain. It’s often common for bacterial infection to follow flu infection as well as for long term cough to occur after flu. It is also possible, though not commonly described, to have influenza with no fever. From Weatherbug website and derived from the CDC report:
“Sporadic Activity (U.S. Virgin Islands, Washington, D.C. and 36 states): Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.”
✅✅✅As far as rhinovirus and other viruses that cause cold like symptoms, these are the predominant strains taken from the state of Wisconsin on the CDC’s site:
✅✅✅“Predominant Virus(es) of the Week: Rhino/enterovirus, human metapneumovirus and parainfluenza-3 are the predominant viruses.”
🥼👩‍🔬👩‍⚕️You probably had one of these strains. Colds are actually caused by many different viruses and are actually many different diseases. All three of the predominant viral strains circulating in Wisconsin right now have cough as a symptom.

"pulmo aide inhaler"?
You talking about a Spirometer, or maybe a Nebulizer Treatment? I have been using 1 of my Spirometers every single day since having Aspiration Pneumonia, that accompanied my 1st Heart Attack in 2003. Still use it every single day to help keep my % of lung function from dropping.
My last regular Full Pulmonary System Testing showed even though I am 16 years older, my Pulmonary Function is the best it has ever been since my 2 PE Events and my Aspiration Pneumonia. I absolutely swear this is because of my regular use of my Spirometers.
Colds? I also live in the Midwest and I can't remember the last time I had a cold. And no, I am not a germaphobe. Hope you get'ta feelin better.

Had it for 8 weeks in Florida. Nothing helped. Developed Gerd afterwards from all the antibiotics. Still suffering symptoms after 12 weeks.

What symptoms did you guys have with bronchitis? I cough up a lot of thick green phelgm. I have awful coughing at night which it's hard to sleep. Not too sure if it's a cold or bronchitis. Doctor says I should take the antibiotics if I'm still sick after 14 days. She says colds usually last 14 days.

I don’t think you have a simple cold. The green drainage sounds more like a sinusitis infection.
I’ve had more than a few bouts of sinusitis in my adult years, and need a strong antibiotic, a Decadron shot (steroid) to handle the inflammation, and Phenergan cough syrup. The last 2x I had it, my doctor also added Mucinex to what I listed above. You need to drink a lot of water when taking Mucinex, but it does a great job with drainage and cough.
I think you need to return to the walk in clinic for a recheck, and further treatment. Do hope you feel better soon.
