Well, I finally was able to get my Shigrix shot today.  I found a Pharmacy that said they had 1 left.  I yelled out, "I'll take it".  It was almost funny to them since not to many people are excited to get a shot.  But tonight my arm hurts a little and I think I'm getting a fever.  He said I could get the second one from 2 to 6 months after.   I have been trying to find this shot for 6 months.  I had to go on wait list at one pharmacy, so I'll call them and cancel it tomorrow.

@luvmybeetle

Congratulations!

I had mine @ 10 years ago after a bad round with singles that affected my right eye.

The vaccination was just out and I waited 2 years for it, on a list with the small independent pharmacist we have gone to for years.

One day in year 3 of waiting I was in the pharmacy waiting for a 'script' to be filled and asked him where I was on the list.  I was still way down, and he looked at me so sadly for a moment, knowing I had had multiple flair-ups and was on an antiviral drug to try and stop them.  Then he said, 'oh heck, I'm giving you this NOW.'

I knew it was not right then, and I know it is not right now.  But still, I am so GRATEFUL!

Best of luck to you!

@luvmybeetle  Rotate your arm to keep it from hurting and take an aspirin. Worked for me. (Suggestions from the RN in my PCP's office when I received my shot earlier this spring.)

@Drythe  There is a new shingles shot out now; much more reliable. A ten-year old shot needs to be re-done anyway. Talk to your Physician and have another shot provided soon; then you'll need the second within six months. The vaccines are in short supply; you may need to be placed on a waiting list. Good luck.

Received mine a 10days ago. My arm was very, very sore, hot and red. For several days I had flu like symptoms, especially extreme muscle spasms and pain.

Good luck with symptoms, it is well worth it to avoid shingles.

I had my first shingles shot last year,  Got the new, improved one last week.  My arm did hurt for a few days ...and I felt achy and feverish for 2 days.   Didn't have a problem finding either one in the Sam's Club Pharmacy.

This vaccination is pricey if you are going to have a large co pay or have to pay out of pocket for it , so shop all around  to every pharmacy in your area for the cost to you. I did. Found Walgreens and CVS were most expensive. Walmart in the middle , but you had to go on wait list, and the best price was at Publix pharmacy, $40 less than Walgreens.

On my ins. this drug is a tier 4 so I have a deductible at that level which meant I had to pay out of pocket for these shots.It pays to shop around, by the time I pay for both shots I'll save $80.

@151949  My insurance paid for 100% of the shingles shot.  It's a vaccine; a preventative treatment under Medicare/BC-BS.

I had my physical two weeks ago and I asked about it.  My doctor said that there's a shortage and most pharmacies near us don't have any.  They'll will all be stocked in a couple of months but everyone's out or practically out now.   It's a big group practice and she said they do have some but are only giving it to people who have compromised immune systems and at risk.  I'll call the office in November.
