I have had shingles 3 times.  The second time was on my back by my shoulder blade.  It was very painful and the worst of it was over in about a month. Two years later, at times, I still have a burning, itching pain in that area. The third time was very light around my waist but not nearly as painful.  

I never had the first shot because I wasn't old enough the first time I had them.  I have now had the 2 shot series, but still had a slight case, the third time several months after the vaccination. So the newest shot did not totally protect me, but I do feel it helped because the last time was not nearly as bad.
