I just got back from an ENT and I was diagnosed with shingles. The pain has been excruciating and it is near the eye. My PCP thought it was an ear infection yesterday and put me on antibiotics. Turns out he was wrong.

If you have had shingles, what has been your experience? I tried to get the vaccine in the past but couldn't.

Wow! Sorry to hear about your pain & having shingles. No help from me. But I do have empathy for you.

IMO: PCP's are not very good. Prefer the specialist. Can you still get a shingles vacine if you have it? I would think your ENT would be able to help you get one.

@Trinity11, No, fortunately I have not had the shingles, but I understand they are no fun!  I have had the Shingles Vaccine, why were you not able to not get the Vaccine?

Hope you are feeling better soon!

No one had it in stock @Hooty . I was on a waiting list at CVS. Thanks for the well wishes.

@Shepherd , he said after a few weeks he can help me with the vaccine. Thank you for the well wishes...

I got tired of waiting for CVS to get the shot several months ago.  I got mine at my local Giant pharmacy.  They had plenty, apparentlly.  Not sure why CVS had such a problem getting the shots.

So sorry for you.  I had them a few years ago over Christmas.  I was in a lot of pain Christmas, my back and right side. Didn't know what was going on until the day after when they popped on my lower back. Dr. gave me shot and prednisone (I believe) to take.  She said I could not get the shingle shot for a while after having the shingles ( a year.)  I spent most nights on the couch because of the pain for a couple of weeks. To be honest I try to avoid dr. and still haven't gotten the shot although I encouraged dh to get it because he does not take pain well so he did.  I'm scheduled to go so I think I will mention it.

@kitty60 ..I hear you on the not sleeping. He can't give me prednisone because it is contra-indicated for Type 1 diabetics, so it will be cortisone cream and an anti-viral. He said it should resolve in about ten days.

If I had known it was this bad, I would have tried harder to get the vaccine.

@Trinity11

I am sorry to hear that you have shingles.  Ouch!

 Several years ago I had them across my R. eye. The pain was bad for about 2 weeks.  I hope you have something to help with it.  One thing that helped a bit was an ice pack.

Did you talk with anyone about it being contagious?  You can’t give shingles to anyone, but you Can give chickenpox to someone who hasn’t had them.

Hope you are able to have the vaccine soon.  Some say you can’t get shingles again, but you can!

Hope you feel much better soon, rest up, and let us know how you are doing.  🌸 🌺 🌸

The only place that had the vaccine where I live is Walmart!!  Every place else was a long waiting list.  We both just went in and asked if they could give the shots and we got the first shot that day.  No problem whatsoever.
