After a serious car accident (not my fault) I had three fractures in my back which took many months to heal. Due to other health reasons, I'm unable to go under anethethics, so surgery was not an option. My Rheumatologist and the Surgeon both agreed to put me on Forteo "to strength bones for 18-24 months." I was on expensive daily shots (not covered my insurance) for 18 months WHICH WORKED to heal my back without surgery.

 After the 18 months of Forteo, I had another bone scan and I do have osteoporis in my back (from the accident). The Surgeon released me to the care of the Rheumatologist, who put me on Prolia every six months (covered by Medicare). No side effects and every two years I have another body scan. So far, the results have either remained the same or improved!

I'm pleased with Prolia and will remain on these shots every six months for the rest of my life. Painless shots and I've felt much better than I have in many years (even prior to the accident!). I'm confident the lab work (every three months) is keeping me safe and my Rheumatologist is watching for any signs of trouble. In the meantime, I have more energy and a lot of strength to accomplish the things I love to do (golfing, swimming, walking, flower gardening). No one believes I'm 75 with the lifestyle I keep.

Try it. Keep your lab appointments and follow a healthy diet and maintain a good exercise lifestyle. You'll be fine with Prolia.

Money screams; wealth whispers.

I am scheduled for a Dexa scan in May.  I am hopeful that I am okay.

A few years ago,  I  had to take a friend in for a Dexa scan.  She needed Prolia, but couldn't afford it.  I paid for it for her, but someone here on the QVC forums gave me info on getting it paid for her from a grant.  I saved the info and will share it with everyone, but apologize that I do not know who the kind poster was who gave me the info.

@rockygems123

I buy Bulksupplements brand silicon dioxide powder from Amazon. That's 100% pure silica and I take 1/4-teaspoon daily by adding it to my green drink.

@Another new name Sue

Yes, the cost could be prohibitive, but I am thankful to have insurance that covers at least half of the cost.

If I make the decision to go forward, I'll just pay the price knowing it might save my life down the line.

@BirkiLady

That's quite an ordeal you went through.

I'm glad to hear it has worked and find it encouraging.  While I'm in good shape at 72, I wouldn't mind feeling better!

Likely, I'm going to go forward after talking to my GP.  As I mentioned, we have a better connection than I have with my endocrinologist, so I believe that will help.

@Carmie

How kind of you to help your friend.  I'm so happy she was able to qualify for some assistance.

It's good to know there is help for those who need it.

@SilleeMee - Are you taking this instead of the bamboo silica?  I have not been happy with the past couple of bags of the bamboo powder and, if I recall correctly, you were using bamboo silica previously.

@ceekay

Yes, I switched from the bamboo silica to the 100% pure white silicon dioxide which is a super-fine white powder and not gritty at all.

I wasn't happy about the brown color of the bamboo silica plus it only contains 70% silica. I feel much more confident taking the 100% pure stuff...pure white, no taste/smell, no grit and it dissolves in liquids almost instantly.

If the bamboo silica contains only 70% silica, then what's the other 30% made of? Probably bamboo material but who knows for sure.
