I use Ultimate Flora. But, I use the one for vaginal care. I've heard that Raw Probiotics brand is good too. Both of these are the refrigerated kind. Digestive Advantage also has good reviews. I don't have IBS, but I would look for a brand that has a variety of cultures for digestive benefits. Lactobacillus acidophilus is an important one for digestion.

Here's a good article from WebMD:

Here is the label from Ulimate Flora Critical Care: You can go on their website at this address:

Supplemental Facts

Does Ultimate Flora state on the box it has to be refrigerated?

Don't have a fave brand--just know to be effective they must be in the BILLIONS not millions.

I have Crohn's disease and I have used Garden of Life Primal Defense for several years (before it was a "popular" thing, lol). It can found at Whole Foods, but the cheapest I've found is ordering online from Swanson's Vitamins. It does not need to be refrigerated and I've been very pleased with the results.

If you're looking for something that's more easily accessible, I've had two gastroenterologists recommend Phillips Colon Care, which can be found at most grocery and/or drug stores.

I use Align which is pricey but it has made a huge difference in my digestion as well as my energy levels. Other probiotics didn't help. I think it's a very individual thing as to which ones help.

It's always a victory for me when I remember why I entered a room.

They have two kinds, the kind I buy has to be refrigerated. I was told by a dietition that the refrigerated ones are more potent.

Yep. Pretty much this is the key to a good one.

I don't know what's best for IBS but I have been using Culturelle and my digestion and habits have been perfect since using it. A lot of my friends use Florastor but I decided against that because I'm afraid it could cause a systemic yeast infection since it's made from a yeast. Although I don't know if that is a valid fear or not.

I have had a lot of GI issues lately because I got C Diff from antibiotics. My gastroenterologist put me on Culturelle...he said it is the best on the market. He prescribed 2 pills daily which is equivalent to 20 billion culltures and when my system started to return to normal he cut it down to 1 per day. I am still taking them after 2 months and will continue until he tells me to stop. I think they have really helped. I was on a Walgreens brand and they did not help at all.

Hope this is helpful.

So, what's the recommended amount to take. How many billion?
