Re: New Year. New You. New Me.

Timely. Would love to join you. Went to docs yesterday to discuss routine cholesterol blood test. Darn, if I didn't gain 5 pounds back with all the entertaining and baking I've done. I've also cut back on going to the gym when its cold and dark after work. Would love to join y'all.

BTW - doc told me to keep moving and working out and eating right and don't worry about the rest. He's an athletic, active 55 year-old and his wife (also a doc) and daughter own a pilates / yoga studio. He said fat cells have a memory and it takes a long time to re-program metabolism. I'll need to Google that one, but interesting, eh?

Re: New Year. New You. New Me.

I too would love to join you all. I need to lose about 20 lbs to get back to a weight where I feel my best. I have given up on "diets like Nutrisystem and hope to lose it using "mindful" eating which is paying attention to content of what you eat and portion size. I plan to eat less processed foods (able to recognize and pronounce the ingredients) and eat mostly veggies, whole grains, lean protein and fruit. Hubby helped me to bag up our unused junk food and highly processed foods and donated them to a local church. Hopefully, this will be the year I get healthy.

Re: New Year. New You. New Me.

Yes yes yes!!! I'm SO in!!! I'm 51 and need to lose 30 pounds! I just found out that I'm going to be a grandma, not once but TWICE! My daughter is pregnant and is due July 4th, AND my son's fiancée is pregnant and is due on July 3rd! Crazy! Anyway, as you can imagine, I'm suddenly feeling older than I am and would feel so much better if I could lose this weight. I even noticed that I've grown jowls this year!

I plan to jump start my weight loss by doing what I call the 3-3-1 diet as well as exercising on my Tony Little Gazelle. I just received my Gazelle (from HSN) and haven't even gotten on it yet! My husband has though and said his legs were super sore when he got off so I'm thinking it'll be great! The 3-3-1 diet is juicing for 3 days, eating only fruits and vegetables for 3 days, and then taking a day off. You can either juice for 3 days straight and then eat fruits and veggies for 3 days straight OR you can alternate by juicing for a day and then eating fruits and veggies for a day for 6 days. AND if you are attending a special event where you know you'll want to partake, you can even move your "off day" around so long as you don't take more than one "off day" every 7 days. I figure since I made up this "plan" I can tweak it any way that I like :-) Juice feasting is a great way to detoxify your body, and of course fruits and veggies (plant-based diets) are the way to go. For me, I don't plan to blow it on my "off day" but figured that it would be a good idea to allow myself a day to have something non-plant-based if I want to. From this jump-start, I'll simply move into a mostly plant-based diet life-style which I've done before and really enjoyed. Processed foods are the enemy, lol.

Anyway, I would LOVE to be a part of this group and would love to inspire and be inspired by others! Let's DO THIS!!!

Re: New Year. New You. New Me.

I have faith in all of your ladies. It can be done. About a year and a half ago I started walking, then running. I managed to lose about 55lbs. I run about 4 -5 times a week and I eat as healthy as I can with the minor splurge on a burger now and than.

It is a total lifestyle change but I would never go back. If you can get over the hurdle (trust me I white knuckled it the first 30 days) it got easier. Now I just automatically make better choices.

My goal is to continue to treat my body well and curb my spending this year. One issue at a time, I guess.

Good luck

Deb

Re: New Year. New You. New Me.

There is a great group with myfitnesspal dot com. I also have a Fitbit Flex that links to it. I am 25 pounds lighter, more active, less tired and I believe I have achieved better health. I was and AM determined to win this one THIS TIME AROUND.

Re: New Year. New You. New Me.

Mandy Lee & All,

Happy new year! I would also like to be part of this thread.

I am a WW lifetime member, lost 27# but have put 7 back on thanks to my sloppiness over the holidays. So I'm going to follow Simple Start for a few days to sort of "de-tox" off the cookies, etc.

I want to lose a good 10#.

Good luck to everyone!

Re: New Year. New You. New Me.

What a good idea! I am 71 years old. In 2009 I went to the doctor and weighed 275lbs! I was so undone by that number that I stopped at Krispy Kreme and got a dozen donuts - ate'em all!! I went up another 10lbs. I am 5'7" and was thin til my 40s. I just very gradually put on pound after pound over the years. From wearing a size 6 then 8 then 12 the 16 and then, horror of horrors, I had to buy a plus size. Even that didn't stop me.

In late 2009 I finally decided that I had to do "something," anything! I started watching my intake and over about 6-7 months I lost 10lbs. I saw something on GMA about fitday dot com and went to the free site. They have a premium site but I chose the free site. I started logging in my weight only. They have tabs for measurements, graphs, dietary intake, exercise, etc. I did no use these only the weight logs.

In 2010 I bought a Stamina Pilates 700 Premium. I later added the pull up bar and the ballet barre. Even though I have arthritis in my knees I hauled it up the stairs piece by piece and put it together in my bedroom. My husband brought in our old treadmill for me. I am slow but I used the dvd's for beginners and I have gradually and consistently lost about 12 to 15lbs per year. I weighed 212lbs this morning. Last January I was able to buy a size 18 in REGULAR sizes! My size 18 are now getting a little baggy and I think I'll try a size 16. I have lost 2 bra sizes and one cup size. As I never measured I don't know how much I lost. The nice thing is I don't have any loose, saggy skin yet.

I did not diet. I hate dieting. It makes me feel deprived. I will never get beyond the Level 1 or 2 pilates. But, that's okay. It still works for me. A couple of months ago I bought a Malibu Pilates chair brand new on eBay. Boy, does it make my thighs and bottom sore! But, it has really improved my posture.

I plan on keeping on doing what I'm doing. I do not talk about this with anyone. I don't want to jinx it.

Re: New Year. New You. New Me.

Congratulations for making the commitment. It CAN be done. I made a personal for real commitment about 20 months ago. Didn't focus on weight. Focused solely on being as healthy as I could. Researched diet as LIFESTYLE and what I would personally be happy with forever, allowing occasional unhealthy choices (i.e. a burger every few months) and ONE regular unhealthy choice (diet coke) because I'm just not ready to give that up (yet). I chose a mostly Mediterranean diet with some modifications. And I've become a big gym goer. I started with bodypump and added spin, and I was nearly the oldest and certainly the slowest at my busy gym. But I refused to be embarrassed by my terrible condition and 59 year old lumpy body. Now I'm 60 and in better shape than I was in my forties, I feel fantastic and the weight was a natural response to mostly healthy eating and great, regular exercise. Lost over 30 pounds but more importantly found my energy and fitness. IMHO, it's all about being fit and healthy, not a number on the scale. Good luck. Stay committed and it will happen.
