I just saw on the news this evening that 155 children have been infected in the Rockland County, New York area. Apparently, they do not believe in vaccinations for their children. There was a protest today claiming it is over-kill to say children must be vaccinated and it is a choice. Just amazing! Ignorance prevails.

My daughter said my grandson's pediatrician accepted patients that don't get vaccinated. She changed pediatricians.

I remember when one couldn't get a government job and couldn't work in a school unless one's vaccinations were up to date.

I remember the cemetaries with all the gravestones of young children. I remember the iron lungs. I had relatives who suffered polio and lived their lives paralyzed and suffered a recurrance of the disease years later as they grew older.

I remember getting measles and the city "public health nurse" visiting and quarantining the house. I remember feeling sick and miserable but I knew other kids suffered worse.

I can't believe the stupidity and irresponsibility of the younger generation. I never thought I'd live to see the day.

I survived the measles, mumps, chicken pox and lived! I remember sick in bed with the measles, the german measles. My fever got pretty high, my mom said that I became delirious for a bit then my fever broke and alls well. Now that there is a simple way to get rid of these diseases, I'm a firm believer in vaccinated your kids.

I live in one of the counties with one of the largest outbreaks. It is not today’s ‘younger people’ although there are some.

It is against some people’s religion. They will not get shots. They say it is their right. This is what is happening in my county.

@Trinity11  Yes, please google who is not getting the shots. That could not be shown on tv.

When I enrolled my kids in school, I had to show their innoculation record. I guess that no longer is part of the process.

In my area, one of the pediatricians will not accept kids that are not innoculated or won't get shots because it puts other kids at risk.

@Trinity11 I live in that county and I'd like to add something to your comment. The measles outbreak here is more or less limited to one part of the community, which is an ultra-orthodox religious one. Even there, it's only a small part of that. However, they do have extremely large families so the numbers of cases increase quickly. The first case was traced to someone who traveled from overseas and brought it from there. There are a few small pockets of non-religious anti-vaccine people protesting it too. The protest you referred to was organized by out of area anti-vaxxers and was very poorly attended. Only a dozen or so protesters showed up. It's really very disturbing - those of us with compromised immune systems and people with babies too young to be vaccinated are afraid to go into stores and other public places. There is so much misinformaiton about vaccines out there and as usual people are believing everything they read on the internet!

One thing about this whole topic that just makes me mad is that there is an adult population out there who need some vaccines.  My own sister was like that and caught a childhood disease in her 50s and it was not fun.

It was shown on CBS. Something about biblical beliefs...

I’m originally from France, and when I was a kid I too got the measles. I don’t remember being quarantined. Every body got the measles back then mid to late fifties. I also got whooping cough and that was terrible.

Thank goodness for vaccination.
