I've looked both online and locally for a thick yet sturdy mat to use for floor exercises.  All I can find are yoga mats and those cheap foam vinyl covered things. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I have mats that I use under my equipment.  They are very good for working out on.

Search on "Treadmill Mats" and you'll get what you're looking for.

They come in a variety of thicknesses and lengths.

Thanks for the reply.  Do you think there is a thickness that would be enough to cushion my hard floors even for exercises you do on your side?  I hope so.  I appreciate the answer and will follow up on this advice.

Look on Walmart.com and read some reviews to see which ones would work for what you want.  There are all different types of mats with free shipping and you can return them to the store.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it~but, Target has a good portion of the line and at reasonable prices. Might want to take a peek.

I found a yoga mat that is about 1/3 " inch thick, you can find them at Marshalls/TJ

If you want something really thick, you might consider buying a foam mattress topper for a twin size bed.

Just adding if you have a sporting goods store near you like Dicks or something similar, they normally have professional equipment that is sturdier and thicker.

My nieces have the thick gymnastic mats to practice at home if you are really trying for something like that.  It trifolds so it's not huge if you don't want it to be and definitely a padded surface.

Amazon also may be a good place to read some reviews for what you are looking for as well.

Re: Mat for floor exercises

[ Edited ]

I think you are looking for an item called a Pilates Mat......thicker than a yoga mat and very "cushy", about 1/2 to 3/4-inch thick.  Target has them on their website, exactly like the one I have and like very much..

One side of the mat has a ridged pattern, probably to provide slip resistance.  A convenient elastic strap makes it easy to store and transport.  It weighs next to nothing.

I bought one at either Target or Wal-Mart several years ago to do some required physical therapy exercises  and still use it every day.

Good luck.
