I know I mentioned this in a thread somewhere along the line but not all fat is created equal.  If you are consuming bacon, red meat, dairy and cheeses on a keto diet because it is "low or no carb" that is nuts and you will give yourself heart disease as @Trinity11 pointed out.

Keto done right is monounsaturated fats like those from nuts, seeds, and olives.  It should not include trans fats, polyfats, or any other fats like vegetable oils which (olive oil excepted) are not good for you in any way.  Cheese and dairy can also get tricky because of the saturated fat in most of those items.

Once you take all of those types of fats away, keto is a very restrictive diet and, unless you live for vegetables and baked or grilled seafood, you'll probably have a tough time long term on it.  That being said it can and does work wonders for brain health and some other medical issues.

@Laura14

And that's how I do keto, just as you described.  I rarely eat cheese, dairy or bacon.  I do eat red meat at least once a month.  The rest of the time it's chicken (thighs or I roast an entire chicken and eat that - then make bone broth from the carcus and additional chicken bones).  And I don't make the infamous "fat bombs".  I don't do any artifical sweeteners at all.  Not even stevia.  I just prefer not to eat it because I finally got rid of my sweet tooth after having one all of my life.  I don't want it back.  Ever.  Same with diabetes.  Don't want that back either.

It's not restrictive because I would much rather eat this way and be satiated then to eat carbs and be hungry within 30 minutes of eating them.  It's a way of life for me.

Don't believe the lies that every diabetic is fat. About 1/3 to 1/2 of obese people are not diabetic..if fat was the only criteria for diabetes, every fat person would be diabetic

There are people of normal weight that are diabetic, I am one, so were my parents.  India has an epidemic of skinny diabetics...why would a skinny person be diabetic if fat was the only reason ...diabetes has many  causes  not just  one....but then I am not trying to shill for a person, making money out of lies ,and false claims

I have been 108 all my adult life ,I didn't even become diabetic until my late 60's  yes age plays a role ,and so does genetics

@Qshopper1991  I did keep stevia for my tea although I'm not big on sweets at all.  In fact, I've gotten sick off of a box of raisins and the natural sugar just in those mini boxes.  LOL  Once you come off, your body wants you stay off big time.

I am even more restrictive and do no meat at all with the exception of maybe once a month when I have company come and they always want to go out to eat.

I am usually a sweet potato and beans kind of gal these days.   And I live for my cucumber salads.

@tansy  No I'm not.  I'm currently blessed not to have any major health issues.

No meat (or hardly), sweet potatoes, beans and salads.  And no refined sugars.

Sounds like a plant based diet.

P.S.  I am all for whatever works for each individual.

@QueenDanceALot

Noticed that....but I wasn’t gonna say anything.

And still waiting on a response to you about the

‘everyone should be on keto’ post upthread, as well.
