I've only posted on this forum a couple of times, but just wondered if anyone has used the FitBit to check your sleep patterns? I'm on advance order for the 23rd, and ordered it mainly to see if it will tell me anything useful about my sleep. Diagnosed with sleep apnea several years ago and am unable to use the CPAP machine, so I thought I would see what this will tell me.

If anyone has tried it regarding sleep patterns, I sure would be interested in knowing what you think about it. Thanks!Smile

Kittymom, I don't want to dissuade you from purchasing, but I don't think the FitBit is super useful for tracking sleep. It gives you a very general view of how long you slept, how many times you were restless, and how many times you woke up. And, you have to tell it each time you wake up in the middle of the night by tapping it. The Jawbone UP24 does a better job of tracking sleep, including tracking REM sleep. I don't like the style of the Jawbone, but you can check it out on Amazon or HSN.

Well I have nothing to compare it to, having never tracked my sleep patterns before, and I think that part of it is very cool! I wake up often, and (without tapping), it tells me the next morning how many times I was awake. I've been fascinated with this thing for the last 4 days. I'm telling everyone I know to get one! I love it!

I also can't wait for the Tory Burch bands that are supposed to look like real jewelry.Smile

Re: How's everyone doing with their Bitfit????

santorini - I am with you! I only have one day of sleep but I would have said I tossed & turned last night but in reality I was restless a few minutes getting into bed and right before my alarm went off. I slept very soundly almost all night. Love the sleep tracking! I had a sleep app on my phone but you couldn't use it on memory foam, it had to be face down, not under a pillow or covers, etc. this is so much nicer! Did a jog this morning and I am up to 5,000 steps already. I can be very sedentary at my job so we'll see what the work days brings. Smiley Happy

Hula, great job keeping your weight off!

I am having a hard time getting my weight back down. I am 5'1, 125ish now, I was 115 when I was hiking. My knees starting bothering me, so I had to stop & the weight crept on. Any tips you can give I would appreciate. What is a typical day of food like? I am going thru the change, so that has been an extra strike against me. I did join a gym, so hopefully I can get this weight off. All my cute skinny clothes no longer fit, ugh. I hear you on loving wearing the clothes you worked so hard to fit into & not losing that!

Do you mind saying how old you are?

Oh, & I did not buy the Fitbit

I'm not sure I really have any tips that we all don't already know......I have found that if I do not exercise (and thank goodness I am able to do it), keeping my weight down would be almost impossible. I think one bad habit that we've all gotten into is portion control.....it's so easy to over-do it and our eyes can fool us, so measure and weigh if this is a problem. My breakfast is light and simple.....one packet of instant oatmeal (plain) sweetened with a packet of Truvia and some cinnamon and I empty an 80 calorie container of non-fat fruit flavored yogurt right on the top of it....I know it sounds silly, but it tastes good to me....that's about 200 calories and gets me started. I was never a breakfast eater until Jenny, so I'm not the type for toast, eggs, pancakes, etc. My lunch and dinner consist of about 400 calories each and the last couple hundred or so calories are for a couple of snacks during the day....maybe fruit, or a Jenny snack. If I over-eat, I feel terrible the next day ,not psychologically, but physically. My body doesn't like it anymore when I eat too much. Sometimes after my lunch or dinner, I feel like I want more, but after about 1/2 hr. I'm perfectly satisfied......it just takes a while for my brain and my stomach to catch up with each other. My age?? I'm 67 and more active and energetic than I ever was in my 20's and 30's. I run, do my Jazzercise classes full-out including the jumping, skipping and whatever else the class requires. No more sore knees and my flexibility is good.

Re: How's everyone doing with their Bitfit????

I'm averaging about 15,000 steps a day. That's an average as sometimes it's less, sometimes it's more. I've hit 20,000 steps now several times and am pushing for 25,000 steps. Don't know that I'll get there, but I've come close a couple times. I know that from last June to the beginning of this past January, I walked 1,000 miles...that's according to Fitbit. Every Tuesday I get an email from them, telling me how I did the week before.

I'm an avid walker either outside or on the treadmill. I also use an elliptical as well as my doctor told me not to simply walk.....cross-training is important for me because of my knees. I mentioned before that I was having trouble getting the Fitbit to acknowledge my elliptical work, but found that if I put the Fitbit into my shorts pocket and then hit the elliptical, it will read the elliptical work.

I've had my Fitbit now for a year. It's a Flex and I use the small teal band right now. I want to get some of the funkier colors.

I have found that my Fitbit will last one week before needing a charge. Every Tuesday afternoon I get an email from Fitbit and my phone app will also tell me that my battery is low. So when I get home from work, I remove the Dongle and plug it into my computer for about five hours. It's charged by then and I put it back on.

I am 59 years old.

I'm still waiting for my FitBit, but if you have an iPhone there is a great APP called Snore Lab. It tracks your snoring all night. Even records it so you can listen to it. (Quite funny some of the noises I make.) You might want to try that. It's free.

Don't get me wrong, I am loving my FitBit too. It's just not the most sophisticated tool for sleep tracking exclusively. I definitely enjoy seeing my sleep data, but wouldn't purchase this exclusively for sleep tracking.

I am so excited for the Tory Burch accessories too! They were originally supposed to be released in the Spring. I wonder how expensive they'll be...

Re: How's everyone doing with their Bitfit????

I bought a FitBit One as a Christmas present to myself. Just got my 750 mile badge on Sunday. It certainly keeps me motivated to get a minimum of 10,000 steps a day. Many days I'm at 12,500 and can hit 15,000 if I'm focused. Even hit 20,000 one day. Hard to do some days since I have a desk job from 6 am to at least 3:30pm.

I'm 42 years old. Down 19 pounds, 16 to go. Down 84 pounds since my all time heaviest. Lost 80 pounds after I got out of college, gained it all back plus. Lost most of it again and gained it all back again. I'm convinced that this little tool will keep my at or around my goal weight once I get there (again). AT the very least, it keeps my conscious of my movement.

I love earning the badges! So far I have my 5, 10, and 15K steps badges. I want to know what other badges there are so I can work towards more badges Smiley Happy

Re: How's everyone doing with their Bitfit????

I had a pin on FitBit that I just loved. Unfortunately, I forgot to unpin it from my t-shirt and tossed it in the washing machine, from whence it did not survive.

I was hoping it might be OK after it dried out (I had a cell phone survive that way once), but alas, it was not meant to be.

I am thinking about replacing it with a wrist model. I really did like seeing those numbers after a walk or run.

Awesome! That's an accomplishment. I wish I could get more steps in with my dogs, but one of them is 16 years old - she loves the first half mile, then promptly refuses to walk any further. Lol. I wish I got extra steps for walking home while carrying a 12 pound dog.
