Anyone had poor results with cataract surgery?

Three weeks out and vision hasn't improved in that eye. Distance is far worse than before surgery and doc doesn't know why. Obviously I can get a second opinion but I'm being patient and giving the problem time. Has anyone had a second lens in that eye to correct the problem?

Re: Anyone had poor results with cataract surgery?

I was lucky. Best thing I ever did. I wore glasses since the age of 3. Now nothing other than a pair of readers if I chose.

I had to have one laser retreat since I had a membrane growing back and I was getting shadows around light. Perfect now. I feel lucky.

I am old enough to remember the surgery that left the patient with bottle like glasses. Oh my. How have times changed.

Re: Anyone had poor results with cataract surgery?

I hate to even say but my mother had surgery done years ago through Humana and the Doctor tore her retina. She had a second surgery done later which I sat through with her but it didn't fix the problem. She had to wear the coke bottle glass lens for the one eye. I need to have it done but I am afraid to. The first doctor lost his job but she signed papers beforehand. I wanted her to sue but my dad was diagnosed with cancer right after that so it never happened.

Yours doesn't sound like it is torn but I would get a second opinion.

Re: Anyone had poor results with cataract surgery?

No poor results with my cataract surgeries nor those of my mother-in-law who was 86 when she had both of her eyes done a few weeks apart.

For me I had a Multi-focal "iol lens" put into my left eye and that allows me to see all distances, including reading very small print. I wore trifocals for years and also "cheaters" at certain times for reading. My right eye I went with the regular Mono-focus "iol lens" and now my glasses are a thing of the past.

Re: Anyone had poor results with cataract surgery?

Very bad results for me. I had very limited vision to begin with. The optometrist made the wrong recommendation for a lens, and then the surgeon made a scar that is like having a star filter on a camera lens. It is blinding whether daylight or god forbid, night time - reflections of light on a road sign, headlights, tail lights, etc. All blinding stars. Life suddenly became difficult. No joy, one day at a time, and I really don't want to go one more day, any day, but stick with it so as to not hurt my DH. - Bird

P.S. I wish that surgeon a taste of his own medicine, may he rot in hel!!.

Re: Anyone had poor results with cataract surgery?

Someone I work with had a bad result and now her eye is worse and she said "it changed her life" but not for the better. She's the first person I ever heard of that had a negative result but unfortunately there's always a small percentage that it won't help and maybe make things worse. I really feel bad for her and if down the road I need cataract surgery, I will be very nervous about doing it.

What a sad thing to read. I truly understand what you are saying but there is no reason for anyone to live life day by day feeling this way. Won't get out my well worn soap box on this one. Will only say I've been to that place and every day of it was a living helI. My direction was to get help for myself to try to return my life to living, not just breathing and existing. While my wife is number one in my life there is no way I can make her life more enjoyable for her by living in that manner. She can easily see through me and there is no way she would want my only reason for living to be for her and our furry family.

Holding on to whatever feelings you have for this surgeon serves no positive purpose and can be a have a negative influence on how a person lives with and beyond the burdens placed on them regardless of what they feel to be the cause of them.

My best to you and my hope is you can look for and find a way to get more out of your life than existing for your husband. If he returns your feelings he probably knows how you are and why you are living your life as you do. Knowing and understanding are different things and while he may know he also might not understand your reasoning.

Life is what a person makes it even during the worst of times regardless of how long that period of time might be. I would be surprised if there were not other people(including the furry kind)other than your husband that have the need of your presence in their life. May you look for and find something and/or someone that makes your life living once again, not just existing.

He has already checked for retina tear and secondary cataract (the membrane problem bonnielu mentioned above). I'm hoping I'm just a slow healer, but two friends that had this done had vision improvement immediately.

Re: Anyone had poor results with cataract surgery?

I too worry. I have cataracts in both eyes. The doctor is going to do the right eye which is more advanced. No mention has been made regarding the left and that has me thinking that there must be a reason why she is holding off doing the left eye.

But my situation is different. Twenty years ago I had a procedure called Radial Keratotomy done on both eyes to correct my vision. I've learned years since that when it comes for lens fitting that it is very challenging on patients who had RK. My doctor, who is a cornea specialist said they will do the best they can as far as lens fitting.

I can only pray that I don't end up with lesser or compromised vision.

Re: Anyone had poor results with cataract surgery?

My grandmother had very poor results with cataract surgery, due to uncontrolled diabetes. I was the only person who did not support her decision to go through the surgery, because I did not believe she would have the glowing results the doctor kept promising her, due to her age, and the toll diabetes had taken on the blood vessels in her eyes. Unfortunately, I was right, and my grandmother's vision was far worse after the surgery. She had to bring everything to within inches of her face to see it, or read it, and her sight was blurry, and quite diminished. There was never any improvement for her situation, and glasses were useless and not recommended.
