Re: Gin-Soaked Raisins for Arthritis?

I've found eating salmon, sardines, tuna, all help my osteoarthritis. I'm 100% sure it works for me. If I stop eating for a while, I very quickly can feel arthritis. I don't go long w/o all three plus Omega 3's.

That made me laugh.  It's the gin...lol   The oldtimers used booze to relieve pain.

@SXMGirl

Love raisins, but recovering alcoholic, so no soaking for mine. I imagine if I soaked them in enough alcohol they just might make everything feel better, until the booze exited my system. If it makes some with arthritis feel better, that's good. I love raisins in their natural form and I have to think most kinds of alcoholic soaks would change their taste.

Re: Gin-Soaked Raisins for Arthritis?

I have been using this recipe for a year now and it works.  As for the alcohol content, 1 teaspoon a day of the rasins is minimal.  I put mine over vanila icecream.  It works for my arthritis. Golden rasins only with the gin.  I asked my doctor about it and she said there is a reaction between the two that may help.

@hckynut, I am not a drinker so no gin in the house.  While I like raisins, they have so much sugar that I stay away unless I am giving blood.  Raisins keeps my hemoglobin at acceptable levels.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

@Fiero Woman, since you say it helps you, I may pick up a mini bottle of gin and a box of golden raisins (I don't think that I have ever had them) and give it a try.  How long does it take to see some improvement?  I think it must be a few months.  I don't object to anything with ice cream, even though I rarely eat it.

Re: Gin-Soaked Raisins for Arthritis?

Am glad my grandmother didn’t know about this arthritis treatment!   As it was, she kept my husband busy with trips to the liquor store for rye whiskey and me busy fInding horehound candy drops for her 2 ingredient cough cure.

My grandmothers last winter was spent in a personal care home.   One winter day I received a call from the RN that Mamaw was coughing, and was asking for me to bring her “cough syrup” out to the home!   Mamaw had to settle for Robitussin.

I don’t like raisins - too sweet. And I don’t like booze, so this would be a “no” for me.

I prefer rum.
