flu shot = no flu.

Not always...it's a hit or miss with the strain each year.

The B strain is in he vaccine this year, but doesn't seem to be working very well.  People who had the flu short are still getting the flu

No they did not mention Xofluza!

Would you please refresh my memory on this med?

@LTT1

Xofluza is a newer Rx anti-viral med (released Oct 2018), single dose and it has to be taken within 48 hours of contracting the flu. It works where certain Tamiflu-resistant strains have occurred.

@Carmie @haddon9

In our area, Type B accounts for 64% of the flu cases so far this year.

My case started rather mildly, although I felt it was something serious.
When they asked me if I had chest pain or tightness, I said yes.

Apparently that was triaged into 🚨

Got a breathing treatment (which helped)

But they did not do a flu test.

By Saturday the condition really hit.

Sunday I was back in the Er for more tests.

@LTT1   I wish you a speedy recovery.  Influenza seems to be developing strains that are very resistant to vaccines.  After all these years, we still can't seem to wipe it out for good.

I went my whole life thinking the flu was a stomach thing that involved vomiting, diarrhea, aches & pains, fever, being tired and not wanting to eat or even smell any food.  Now, many decades later I learn that the flu is really more like a bad cold and involves coughing, sneezing, fever, aches & pains, as well as tiredness.  The thing I always thought was the flu is really called gastroenteritis.  I guess you are never too old to learn new things.  Did anyone else grow up with this misconception?

@Havarti Bad cold doesn't even begin to describe it.  You start to wish someone would dig you a hole in the back yard and throw you in it.

@ID2  I think a flu shot can help so the flu is not as bad and recovery  from flu is faster. Some people brag they never get the shot and don't get the flu! There are so many different strains symptoms  and timing of occurrences. Health professionals don't have all the answers  either,  it seems.

@Carmie

thank you

today is day 5 for me and I'm markedly better.

So that is good

Any worse during the height, and yes, I would have been wanting to be in a deep hole.

No sleep from Friday night through Sunday

Have not been able to eat yet

The cough was relentless...and this morning seems to be gone.

good to know about the Xofluza being used successfully against strains that are resistant.

Really good

Doesn't Xofluza sound kind of like "The Floozy?"

That would be the way I will remember this med!
