As of August 2016 the recommendation to floss has been removed.  My husband still glosses and uses the waterpik (a mouth full of implants).  I, on the other hand, have never regularly flossed (my teeth are very close together and it is difficult).  Both of us go to dentist regularly (DH 4x year, me 2x year). I am 73 and all my teeth are natural and very straight (never had braces) and many dentists over the years have told me how beautiful they are.  I think good genetics and a lifetime of great dental care are the ticket.

THis is unbelievable! And I really think people need to stop listening when they change some of these recommendations. They are saying that pap tests are only needed once every three years now as well. For me, I'll still get a pap every year and floss every day. Simple and easy things to prevent disease. What the heck is the medical community thinking?

I wish I had started flossing as a child, as I would have saved myself a lot of pain and money! I never had braces, and have rather weak teeth that are very close together. Once I "discovered" flossing, I've never looked back.

My dentist and hygentist have requested I brush only 2X a day as even with my sonic care I get carried away! I always floss 2x daily and rinse in between brushing now.  No cavities in many years and my recession is improved!

For some of us getting a little older, our teeth aren't as tight as they used to be.  Food gets caught easier and I find it necessary to floss every day. I can only imagine what leaving food between your teeth all day and night might do to them. I didn't floss much when I was younger but for the last 10 or 15 yrs. or so,,,,,, DH and I floss.  At this age, we want to keep all the original parts we can and for as long as we can!!!!!!

Thanks for the tip and photo Katie B., I never heard of that.

I find the The floss holder made by Glide are the thinnest and best around.  My teeth are tight together so flossing is hard.  These help a lot!  I don't floss daily but trying to!

Dental habits are a pain but worth doing since dental work is awful and pricey...
