I've been doing yoga at home for several years. I have a DVD and also use two apps. This has worked up until now, but I've been wanting to go to a class for a few different reasons.
The primary one is that I want feedback from an instructor. I'd also like to interact with other members in the class.
And then there is this...when I do yoga at home, my cat likes to take part and positions himself on my mat or climbs all over me while I'm on the floor!
Who else goes to a class and what do you like/not like about it?

@september I have been going to Yoga classes 1-3 days a week for close to a year. I am not a "group" person at all, but decided to go to classes rather than going it on my own.
I wanted to make sure I was doing the poses correctly so started by takIng a six-week beginner series. I now take four classes a week--I love it! If I did it at home (as I had planned) after the beginner series, I knew I would take the easy way out of poses and length of time spent in them. I need accountability. đ
Best of luck to you! I think you will find your Yoga experience enhanced by taking classes. Let us know how it goes. đ

We don't have yoga classes offered in the community we live in.
I wanted to let you know your post brought a smile to my day when you wrote about your yoga kittyđ
All the best to you and enjoy your class.

@BExplorer Yes...I think I'm doing okay and have gotten stronger and more flexible on my own, but think I can do better with the help of an instructor. I spoke to her on the phone yesterday, and she seems to be the type of person who will be good for me. No splits or standing on my head!

@butterfly123 Yep...I even have little claw marks on my mat, where kitty decided it was time to dig his claws into it!

On those rare occasions, I'll do DDP Yoga from home,
though my fitness club has an amazing yoga program.
I've taken just a handful of classes. Every time I think, 'I gonna like this'
but I end up so frustrated! It really depends on the instructor...
just like any group fitness class. Some instructors 'take' their own class, not walking around & correcting. Others have really cool music, but talk & 'jibber jabber' so much. Then others are really into the 'breathing through your eyeballs' bit (Yes, I'm being silly), with candles...and essential oils...and lots I want to do is walk out.
Like I mentioned, finding the r.i.g.h.t instructor is the deciding
factor if you found the 'perfect' class. Have fun!

Thanks, @sidsmom. I've heard about this instructor from other members at this community center. I think I like that it's not at a gym and is geared to work for all fitness levels.
I'll find out tomorrow and if it isn't for me, I'll keep working out at home with a cat under my body until I find a different class!

Diamond Dallas Page (DDP)
He's a retired professional wrestler (WWE) who started doing his own version of yoga to heal his wrestling injuries. He made it a business & had his own infomercial way back in the day.
What REALLY got his name out was one man, Arthur Boorman. Go to Google or YouTube & search his name. This video went viral has has over 13 million views! He had an amazing transformation story which was guided by DDP Yoga. This type of practice is not the quiet, meditative version yoga is noted for...and that appealed to me. I got the DVDs & run through the routine ever so often. I need to get back into it..with this post, I'm rolling out my mat! Thanks for your inspiration!

I really enjoyed the class today. The hour went by so quickly!
I had done some of the poses/exercises before and others were new to me. The instructor had blocks for everyone that we used for some of the exercises...mostly arm ones.
At at one point in the class, we went outside on the deck, which just happens to have an ocean view. We did about 10 minutes of the class facing the ocean.
There were only about 10 people in the class, which I liked. The instructor was able to look around and guide anyone who needed help. I'm definitely going to go to this class every Wednesday!
