My doctor prescribed an antibiotic I never tried.   Doxycycline  monohydrare.  Anyone here that had taken it?

Yes, I've taken it quite a few times, for my skin and for a tick bite. I never had any trouble with it.

Suggest you check out drugs.com.  It will give you great data on interactions and side affects.

I took it for 2 weeks as a precaution when I got a tick bite, no reactions to it. But there is a sunburn advisory that comes with it, so be protected if in prolonged sun.

Doxycycline  is related to tetracycline.  I grew allergic to those types of drugs and cannot take them or will not be able to breathe, so Ihave to avoid them.

That's a shame, because doxycycline and tetracycline have been in wide use for as long as I can remember back in the 1960-1970s.  I took them quite well for various minor problems several times back then. Then something went haywire in terms of a reaction.

It sounds familiar. I'm sure I've taken it before.

I was just thinking. I believe I took it when a cat we once had bit me and my hand and forearm became super swollen. I was concerned and went to the doctor.

Doxycycline is tetracycline, broad-spec ab.

I was just on Doxycycline for a month due to Lyme - actual tick bit in early May and Lyme Bulls Eye in early June.  I just adopted a rescue that has a tick borne illness and vet put him on Doxy.  I had sun sensitivity and made sure that I ate whenever I took Doxy to avoid getting nauseus.

If you have any concerns ask your pharmacist.  They have a wealth of info and are readily available.

I took doxy on an extended basis some years ago for acne/rosacea.  Didn't have any problems.
