I had some relief by taking Prozac and Wellbutrin.  Then I stopped (don't remember why).  A few days after I began taking them again, I had FOUR HOURS of restless legs in the middle of the night!!!  I stopped taking them again and had no more problems with restless legs.  But I DO need anti depressant medication.

A friend mentioned that the "latest and greatest" are called "mood stabilizers."  Anyone familiar with those and have you found they help?  TIA

@spent2muchHave you been diagnosed as bipolar?  Otherwise, mood stabilizers are not for you.  I think you need to stay away from your friend's advice and stick with your doctor.

What is the difference between a mood stabilizer and an antidepressant?

Mood stabilizers are specifically antimanic drugs, meaning they treat mania and mood cycling, as seen in bipolar disorder. They are not generally effective in the treatment of depression, though. Antidepressants treat conditions that make you sad or feel “down”

Mood stabilizers are also used for depression.

@spent2much In regards to your comment to:

@Love my grandkids  No, I didn't.  I've stopped taking them several times in the past and never had a problem.  With some meds, I wouldn't stop w/o checking with my Dr., but with these particular ones, I'm OK.  Thanks for your concern, though.  ❤

I don't think you are OK or you would not be posting your health issues. I highly recommend what just about every response here has recommended, talk to your doctor.

It usually takes a pyschiatrist to find the correct anti depressant for people, not a GP or internist.

@spent2much    many years ago a doctor put me on a tricyclic antidepressant.  he said i was depressed but i dont think i was. this was wayyy before Prozac.  it did absolutely nothing.  only had one Rx he never instructed me not to stop it suddenly.  i moved and ran out of the med.   sent me into a tailspin for months. then i really did get depressed!!  no appetite and cried for weeks. so please be careful with these meds.  i find some doctors will just throw meds at people sometimes just because there are so many available now. like throw noodles at the wall and see if it sticks!

As someone who just recently came off antidepressants (with doc support); I learned from my PCP that it depends on the antidepressant whether you can go cold turkey or not.

Does anyone take Melitonin for sleep problems?  If so, do you take it regularly?

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive what could go right.

I take Melontonin with my depression medicine  at nigh to sleep and just the right dose may help wihenever you have the problem of restless legs. I started with a small dose.  It never worked for me either until I looked up what it did and how to use it.  Every good wish for success in whatever method you do use, !!!
