I had some relief by taking Prozac and Wellbutrin. Then I stopped (don't remember why). A few days after I began taking them again, I had FOUR HOURS of restless legs in the middle of the night!!! I stopped taking them again and had no more problems with restless legs. But I DO need anti depressant medication.
A friend mentioned that the "latest and greatest" are called "mood stabilizers." Anyone familiar with those and have you found they help? TIA

@spent2much Did you stop with your doctor's OK? Sometimes quitting a med cold turkey can have strange side effects.

@Love my grandkids No, I didn't. I've stopped taking them several times in the past and never had a problem. With some meds, I wouldn't stop w/o checking with my Dr., but with these particular ones, I'm OK. Thanks for your concern, though. ❤

UGH! I think ve been prescribed everyone at some point in time. Most, my body couldn't tolerate. They left a metallic taste in my mouth too.
The Wellbutrin worked better than any other. The Prozac didn't bother me either.
@Love my grandkids is right about not stopping them without telling your dr. Some can cause bad effects.❤️

A good friend of mine has been on antidepressants for over 20 years. She found they were not effective for her and her doctor suggested taking a test that looks at your DNA to determine which med would work best with her chemistry.
After testing came back she was weaned off old medication and then started a new course. Early days, but she says she has had no adverse reaction to new meds.
I hope you find something that helps you.
See below
The GeneSight Psychotropic test analyzes how your genes may affect your outcomes with medications commonly prescribed to treat depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other mental health conditions.

Every person reacts differently. I would never go off a drug immediately.
I am weaning myself off a anti depressant I've taken for years. My Dr. said take half the dose for 2 months. At that point I am to check back with her. I'm 3 weeks in, so far so good.
I recommend always speaking with a doctor for any change in a prescription med.

It can be very dangerous to stop antidepressants "cold turkey". Please get in contact with your doctor ASAP

@spent2muchHave you been diagnosed as bipolar? Otherwise, mood stabilizers are not for you. I think you need to stay away from your friend's advice and stick with your doctor.
What is the difference between a mood stabilizer and an antidepressant?
Mood stabilizers are specifically antimanic drugs, meaning they treat mania and mood cycling, as seen in bipolar disorder. They are not generally effective in the treatment of depression, though. Antidepressants treat conditions that make you sad or feel “down”

Hi, you are supposed to taper off of those medications, not abruptly stop. I am not sure if you just stopped them or not but consult your doctor.

Go to your doctor now! Everyone reacts differently to meds. You and your dr have to find the one that helps.
You should never stop anti-depressants without coordinating it with your dr.
I have PTSD and depression. I tried 3 different anti-depressants before we found one that really helped. Years later, we added Buproprion (generic Wellbutrin).
Given what I know, I'd never take prozac. There are so many other options that don't have the same side effects or interactions with other medications.
I joyfully take medication because it helps me live a normal, happy, fulfilled life. I'd never stop them without going through my dr.
