Excess calcium in the blood can interfere with normal muscle and nervous system functions. It has to do with the chemical flow of ions (energy) between the blood and the cells. When there is a disturbance in the balance of chemistry, then the nerves will be effected and pain will result from that unbalanced chemistry. That's a very basic description of what can happen. @goldensrbest

It is just like statins, millions of people taking them, but I would never take them. What works for some, will never work for everyone.
I also take Tums when needed, plenty of calcium in there too.
@Shelbelle Tums are just really screwing up your breakdown of Calcium... and absorption of calcium... so doing exactly opposite of what you think it is doing for you.
The antacid Tums is not a good source of calcium, and it decreases the very stomach acid needed to aid calcium absorption and protein digestion.
But one Tums gets rid of my heartburn, better than taking a Proton Pump Inhibitor like Nexium or Prilosec which has a terrible effect on the body. Zantac is now shown to have a cancer causing ingredient. Bottom line, the less you take the better, but we all need some help. I get relief from one Tums, when I need it, makes me happy!! My Dad took Rolaids, they are full of aluminum!!!

Here is a fact sheet from the NIH for consumers to read. It contains facts, not medical advice or doctors' recommendations. Just the facts for consumers:

I, personally, question this.
It's from our Government who is continually pushing the dairy industry.
Case in point:
"Certain groups of people are more likely than others to have trouble getting enough calcium:
(Vegans)....because they avoid the dairy products that are a major source of calcium in other people’s diets."
Seriously?
Vegans get plenty of calcium through plant based sources.
And I would question the RDA amounts....on how they determined that arbitrary number of 1200mg for Women 51-70.
