Recently, my calcium level had risen a bit. I looked at the bottles of supplements, and discovered that in addition to the 500mgs of Calcium Intensive Care I was taking daily, there is calcium in quite a few of the supplements and with that, including food, I was intaking too much.
I stopped the calcium supplement for over a week, then was retested and all was fine, so now I will only take the supplement on days when I don't eat calcium rich food.

My calcium levels were also a little high taking supplements. I have stopped (with MD approval) and my levels have been within normal ranges for over a year.

@mousiegirl @reiki604 I'm glad you cut back on your calcium. I did the same thing not too long ago when there was news that too much calcium in the blood causes clogging of your arteries! (It apparently mixes with the cholesterol.) After years of them telling us to take so much of it to protect our bones, I wasn't happy when I heard that. I've added Vitamin K2 and Vitamin D, which both aid calcium absorption into your bones. I also eat quite a bit of yogurt, and I was already taking magnesium for many years.

@mousiegirl What happens to your body or in your body when calcium level are too high? I never knew it could get too high... I take 2000 mg daily (along with Vit D3)for the beginnings of osteoporosis.

@KatieB It can bind with cholesterol and clog your arteries.

@2blonde That's not good... I have to have an ultrasound on my carotid arteries yearly, because of clogged arteries due to high cholesterol... Not good at all....
And the vascular surgeon will not do surgery until they are at least 80% clogged because the surgery is so dangerous...

It's a good thing I read the Wellness Forum here.. Otherwise I would have never known all this stuff about high calcium levels... The doctors never bothered to tell me about high calcium levels.

I never take any supplements. Blood work always comes back within range.
All I do - make sure I eat a balanced diet.

@KatieB Yes, clogged arteries are scary. I hope you will be OK. I nearly fainted when I heard on the morning news about the problem with calcium supplements (it was several months ago). I immediately cut back on it and stopped the calcium carbonate completely. I only take a smaller amount of calcium citrate now, which is supposed to be more absorbable. I do have osteopenia in one hip joint, so what's a person supposed to do? I refuse to take any of the drugs they offer for it.

@2blonde I use Andrew Lessmans Glucosamine/Chondroitin for my knees, and it has really helped, no more clicking or pain, but if I sit too long, I can be stiff until I get up, age, lol. Lessman also sells a joint support, don't know what the difference between the two are, but will look into it.
