I think this must be a broken blood vessel in my hand. I think I did it when I was trying to hold my dog or cat to trim their nails a couple of hours ago. It hurts and is really swollen. I put ice on it, but it didn't help.
If it hasn't gone down tomorrow should I go to the walk-in clinic? I don't mean to be an alarmist over nothing, but I've never had anything like this.

I guess just see how it's doing tomorrow. I don't know that a broken blood vessel would hurt, so maybe more than that. Call the doctor and see what they say.

@qualitygal I guess I will wait until tomorrow. It's 5:55 now, so I can't call the doctor. I'm going to try to Google it.

I am sorry you hurt your hand so badly. You can’t make a mistake going to a doctor. All my best wishes for your healing.

@NickNack Try not to worry too much. I once caught my forearm in the hinge of a folding clothes dryer rack and OUCH! it bruised and swelled like your hand. I went to the doctor and she said if it was any major blood vessel you would have known it and called 911.
She said to wait a couple of days and call if the swelling didn't go down. It did. Just going by my own experience, I'd do ice, be sure to elevate it and see how it looks tomorrow. Feel better.

Thank you @PamfromCT and @WindingRoad . I just now Googled it, and it does sound like I popped a blood vessel. It said it could be painful. I'll give it a couple of days. If it looks worse tomorrow I'll go to a walk-in clinic.

I did the same thing & it looked similar to yours...I was told to elevate it, ice for 10 minutes at a time & take a over the counter pain reliever, I used Aleve. If your concerned it never hurts to walk into a clinic or see your Dr. Best Wishes, feel better soon @NickNack

Get some Arnica cream and rub some on it - it is magical cream specifically for bruises and helps them heal & diappear much more quickly than without it. Call you local drugstore or check Wal-Mart, etc. It comes in a tube that is sold in a vertical box - white & blue mostly. I think you will be pleasntly surprised.

Yes @NickNack, it is painful, I remember that. Elevating it will definitely help and don't take aspirin for pain because it will make it worse and harder to heal. Can you sleep with it on a pillow to raise it?. It may just look worse tmrw until the blood starts to move out of that area. I think you'll be fine in a day or two.

So sorry you are dealing with this OUCHIE.
I have had many of these hurts like yours, and bleeds from blood drawing attempts.
Ice when it happens is about all the advice I’ve ever been given.
Don’t use ice long enough to cause tissue damage.
It will likely hurt for several days and slowly, very slowly reabsorb.
If you are concerned, don’t hesitate to get MD help.
Best Wishes.
