It's an easy test. I think a specialist may be more likely to order one than a regular PCP. One of my siblings has oteoperosis and has broken several bones. It ends up I don't have it, hope to not get it, but wanted to be tested.

Re: Bone Density Scan

[ Edited ]

@colliemom4 @BHG I have dealt with a lot of bone density issues in the past. The scans are not a big deal. I started doing whole body vibration machines as it's supposed to improve bone density.

Can't say I have scientific proof, but I feel like my bones are getting healthier!

Best of luck to everyone here.

I have heard about that....when do you go back for a scan to see if it's working for you?

Re: Bone Density Scan

[ Edited ]

Silica (silicon) supplements have been shown to help build bone density. I have been taking bamboo silica for a few years and before that my Dexa scans were below normal. I had a scan done a couple of months ago and that was normal. I have not been on any Rx bone densifying meds....just the otc silica.

Here's a NIH publication about post-meno osteo and silica supplementation:

Here's another publication about silicon and bone health. Cut to chase and scroll all the way down to "Conclusion".

Update: I just got my scan results and my T-score is 1.1. They showed me the screen after they were done, and I was right in the middle of the green (normal) range. I guess I just need to keep doing what I've been doing. Said to repeat the test in 5 years.

I had to wait for my age 65  Medicare physical. All I got was a phone call telling me  bone scan showed I had osteoporosis  and asking if I wanted the shot?  Those were the very words. No information as to level, options or Dr. Input, cause etc.. I guessed it was Prolia they never said. Big to do about insurance approval. Same with second call. Insurance issue but insurance oked it they said.

I was fuming and wrote a complaint to the clinic. I haven't gone in this year yet for my physical but my Dr. Is going to hear about this vague, indifferent phone call.  I almost pulled out of the clinic but like the Dr. I went ahead and had the two part shot!
