There’s a recent trend of stem cell treatment centers popping up all over the country. These centers offer unproven treatments that are not FDA approved. The treatments are very expensive and can run $20 K. There have been deaths and harm associated with the treatments. Some of the vials of stem cells that patients were to receive did not even contain any stem cells at all. Some shipments of products to be injected into patients resulted in severe, life threatening infections due to contamination. Some of the physicians employing the treatments are licensed MDs and chiropractors. None of these practitioners are stem cell experts. There are only a few approved stem cell treatments and they are listed on the FDA’s website. The FDA is trying to crack down on these unapproved treatments and they have posted a warning about them. The clinics drum up clients by offering stem cell seminars. The promises made for the stem cell treatments are not based on any scientific research. There are legitimate treatments using stem cells and highly promising research in this area. There are also FDA approved clinical trials for those that wish to participate. In the future there will be far more efficacious treatments available. For the present, use extreme caution before undergoing any of these treatments.
