I want to say a big thank you for all of your replies. Theres alot of good information and helpful suggestions here.
I have had reflux for a while after i was diagnosed so i do know something about it.
My problem I think lately has been eating many of the things that I should not like cookies, chips, dip, lots of peanut butter, mayo, and more. DUH!!!!
I do seem to do fine when I follow a strict diet. I guess I was still in denial and thought that I could eat any thing I wanted. But this is just not true anymore.
I am going to read that book suggestion and try some pro biotics as well. Plus get back to the eating plan!
Thanks again so very much. Best wishes to all. Hugs

Oh a few other things:
In reply to the message about stress.
I am under alot of stress and this does seem to effect the stomach. I have read your emotions are in your gut and stress and anxiety can have a big effect.
I do have a wedge i sleep on but i also put pillows on it cuz without it is not comfy. I have read that this puts pressure on your stomach. I know that some people have an electric bed and it helps or a medi wedge or that type of wedge.
You need to lift your whole upper body other wise you can have a worse reflux problem. This might be my issue too
Another thing is about the PPI's like Nexium and others. If you read about them they can cause you harm over time. It sounds terrible. Things like renel failure, kidney disease, heart issues and on and on. This is why my Dr does not advise long term use.

Love peanut butter but I can no longer eat it later in the day/evening. I don't have any problems eating it earler in the day. I have the same problem with chocolate & fruit.
The probiotics & digestive enzymes seem to really help me.
Good Luck. Hope you find something that works for you.
You might also want to read about the HCL Betaine challenge test.

There are some cookbooks on Amazon that may help you if you are interested. I don't know if I'm allowed to post that or not?

Chocolate in any form is asolutely out for me... I also have had great luck with
food combining.. which is not combing protein foods with carbohydates..like
not having meat and potatoes together. That has really worked for me. Also
no eating after dinner...at night before bed. But seriously the food combing has
really helped the most....Its an old book.. but it is spelled out in " Fit for Life" ....
Also Suzanne Sommers Books are along this line as well.. and great recipes.
Good Luck ....

Also its best if you watch your intake of coffee.... best if one cup .. only in the morning.... Sorry....that one is tough... also not a brand that is too strong...I use Folgers...Simple Smooth now....that seems to help....

@chickenbutt wrote:I hope you are doing ok. I took Prilosec (but only one 2wk therapy every couple of months) for a while. But when it went beyond GERD that stopped helping, so I stopped doing it.
My esophagus seems to be pretty messed up at this point and I have a lot of pain down there so I am just careful. It seems like bready type foods and sometimes meat, especially beef, don't do very well and I usually cannot get them down so they have to be refunded.
Sometimes I can get away with eating these things but sometimes it's just a no-go. The pain is beyond excruciating and sometimes it takes a while to bring the food back up.
I just deal with it. I don't have pain more often than I do, so far, so I'm glad for that. Sometimes it's just an acid-type thing so I take some Tums 1000 and that will help. Chew them up really good and then chase with water. Also, try and avoid foods/drinks that are acidic. Coffee, tea, soft drinks - probably the worst. Even chocolate is highly acidic. How awful is that!
@chickenbutt Do you see a gastroenterologist? You really need to be on something. It can turn into Barrett's Esophagus, which is cancer, if you don't treat it. Also, if the food won't go down, they can stretch your esophagus. It isn't a complicated procedure. My brother-in-law had it done.

Hi @NickNack,
Read my post #15. I had no symptoms of any type of problem, yet? My list post Endo was very long. Lost count of how many of them I have had done since the 1st one, and them finding Barrett's. It can be a "silent killer" for people like myself, that were/are asymptomatic.
For anyone with some of the things I have read here, not to have an Endoscopy? Symptoms are usually I sign something is wrong, be it a minor or major issue is immaterial. Treating either type of symptoms without the exact diagnosis, is like putting an oil rig fire out with one's P.
During an Endo the doctor can "dilate" the esophagus, I have them do it whenever they can. My Gastro Doctors have never told me it "stretches it".
I hope those that are doing "self-medicating" have had an Endo. If not, they are guessing at the source of their discomfort. Doing that, over time, can be a very dangerous path to tread. Making something feel better, in no way is always treating the cause.
If anyone here has any type of Gasto issues, and has not seen a Gastro Doctor? Good luck!

@hckynut You certainly were lucky they did the first endoscopy on you. I'm curious why they recommended it when you weren't having any symptoms. I've had several endoscopies and take omeprazole every day. I agree that anyone having any type of symptoms should absolutely see a gastroenterologist and have an endoscopy. I guess I should have been more clear in my post to chickenbutt. I didn't mean she should self treat. I hope she will see a gastroenterologist and have an endoscopy.

Thankfully, no but after reading the comments it all seems to come down to avoiding certain foods.
